Hi guys! This might be a silly question but I thought I’d ask here. I’m sorta a green bean (been working here for 5 months now). TLDR version is as follows; I read a code wrong, used non fat milk instead of soy. Poured the non fat milk that was in my steaming cup( but not yet steamed) down the sink since I didn’t need it. My co worker said I should have poured the milk into the milk jug, rather than dumping it, since it had not been steamed yet. That just didn’t seem right to me. Is pouring milk back into the container after it has already been poured into a steaming cup okay? It just didn’t seem like it would be sanitary.

Your instinct was right. Your coworker is insane.

That’s what I was thinking. I’m just struggling to find the exact food law that says that. Because I know it’ll come up again somehow, and I’d like to be able to tell her that is not allowed

Eww that’s the same reason food even touched a customers hands and/or table you cannot use it again. It’s a bacteria/fungal issue.

Ugh yes! I thought it was very gross. Didn’t seem sanitary to me at all

I've always learned that if ANYTHING is out of a sealed package / container and isn't / cannot be used, it is considered "dead" and should be thrown away.

You were right. Don't listen to her lol

Agree with your instinct, but I know lots of the partners in my store (even ssv) low key pouring the milk back to the bottle all the time. 🤷🏻♀️

Eww! You were right to dump it. I hate waste, but food safety is always the top priority.
