How flexible is Starbucks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lunaboro
Hi guys!

I’m in LA. Moved with my bf for acting, the whole story.

How flexible is Starbucks? I saw one by me is hiring. If I am only available Tuesday/Thursday because I work the other day and have class, is that something they work with? I have heard they are very flexible, but would be good to speak to those who have worked there.

Adding in: can I be over qualified too? I have my bachelor degree and have had many office jobs so I’m wondering if that will have my resume overlooked, but that isn’t what I’m pursuing anymore.

Depends on the store.

AT my store, there's a barista who works one Saturday a month and that's it! When I was in high school I worked only 4-8 hours max a week closing the store. I would ask the manager if two days is okay. Honestly If they gave u shifts those two days and you could work anytime those two days, 16 hours is more than many baristas at my store get and they have more open availabilities!

I would just apply and see what happens!

Thank you!! I’ll apply and see what happens ... I am sure it probably has 1,000 applicants! It’s Hollywood, after all lol.

They’re really flexible if you go into the job with boundaries.

It’s very hard to set those boundaries after you start working for a few months.

There is zero flexibility with promotion.

Makes sense. So go in being firm that, I can only do those hours. It’s okay I don’t need promotion - I just need something to supplement my income a few hundred dollars a month :)

Yeah the benefits are amazing.
Just be prepared to work your butt off.

I mean I don’t think I would really get any benefits from 2 days a week! But i am also worried they would not hire me for being “too qualified” if that makes sense

To think that you could be "too qualified" is just a little pretentious, imo. Get it out of your head that you ever could be + you'll be fine. We are all human looking to make a living.

It all depends on the stores needs. If they are desperate for coverage those days then you might have a shot.

I heard you have to work at least 12 hours a week, and you have to be available 150% of the hours you want to work.
lunaboro [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Lol what does that even mean! I’m okay working at least 12, I can do 16.
robotcrackle 1 points 3y ago
Like, I want to work 20 hours, so I give them 30 hours of availability. I do end up working 25 every week though. So if you are willing to work 12, you give them 18 hours to choose from.
