Where the Unionizing Posts At? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Constantly_Panicking
Long-time ex “partner” here. Y’all know everyone is thinking it. It’s union time. Starbucks is a horrible, gaslighting company and it’s time Baristas had a collective voice and leverage.

Lol. Dang. Reviving this post from it’s grave. Two is a start! It took two years too long, but let’s keep it going. Nationwide barista union membership seems like a good goal.

I have zero experience with unionizing but I'm all in and will fully support any efforts to organize

All right! There’s one! Let’s keep it going!

There's been talk in the main sub, but there's a lot of problems with unionising.

1. A whole district would have to do it at once. It'd have to be a collective thing as Starbucks is notorious for shutting down unions and firing those involved.

2. We would need a union that can actually fight for better wages, which likely means a union that can support striking. Striking could even mean a slow-down or a sit-in, but we would need enough leverage that firing everyone won't be lucrative.

There were some other points made $1 but...I dunno, maybe i'm a pessimist. I just can't see a successful union attempt right now. Their PR is so great, it's very very easy for us to be replaced right now.

We need to start by ruining the mainstream media's view of Starbucks. We need more articles and viral videos of people talking about their negative experiences.

Sounds like a bunch of reasons why partners NEED to unionize.

Yes, which you stated in your OP. But like I said, lots of problems with getting it work.

Like i said. Start with the MSM.

How are you thinking? I mean, I could totally write something about Starbucks, but where would it go? And would it do anything for current employees who aren’t allowed to speak out negatively about the company without loosing their jobs? At the point people start complaining En Masse they are already a good way toward organizing.

Current employees can get away with it if the journo maintains confidentiality and doesn't share location info or names, and the employee doesn't reveal identifying situations.

I'm about ready to reach out to people and compile a Medium article tbh I just wish BuzzFeed or WaPo would write about how miserable everyone is
