I’m back and I have a new rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mierecat
Ok so a few of my baristas complained about this and I’m only just now considering it: I feel like I get stuck with the worst possible conditions on my shifts. Like, just today my SM scheduled 3 people to do the clean play but I had only one other person on the floor with me during the first half of peak. My store is tiny and I’ve seen bigger stores only schedule one person. They didn’t even finish it! She keeps saying how we don’t earn enough labor for my shifts but she’s apparently been scheduling too many people for opens this whole time despite that. I’m only scheduled for closes, I never get to do anything else. I feel like my growth is stagnated because of it.

My manager will straight up ignore complaints I bring up unless she’s personally effected or another shift complains about the same thing. I wrote in the book once about how we got an unusually high number of fraps once and she used (bad) statistics to brush it of and lecture me about sequencing. She asked me to organize the fridges and write a whole schematic for them and the very next day, while she was there, they were a mess again.

I’ve been hearing things about the store second hand (even when they involve me directly) too. She’s just stopped telling me stuff. A new shift was hired and I didn’t hear a word of it from her. She keeps complaining about my closes and how I’m doing them wrong when I keep getting scheduled with people who *do not know how to close* and I don’t have time to teach them. She works mornings and so does the person she put in charge of the schedule which means I’ve been getting stuck with even worse people on my shifts. We have one barista who’s freaking excellent and who can close on weekends but instead I get stuck with someone who just makes everyone uncomfortable and half asses everything.

I get stuck with jobs nobody else will do. I get stuck with fixing jobs other people do inadequately. I get stuck with undertrained staff. I don’t get scheduled time off the floor or extra time to deal with any of it. If I had any faith at all talking about it would solve anything I have already tried it. I just feel stuck.
