Schedule Policy (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by x_andromeda_x
I work at a campus location and just emailed my supervisor to take off 2 days next month. One was Oct 2 because I have a midterm during that shift, and the other was Oct 14 because I'll be out of town that weekend.

She told me that I'm responsible to find coverage... even though I'm telling her a month in advance.

Is this actual the policy? I had thought you only need to find coverage if you tell your boss last minute.

I've never worked a job where they always make you find coverage, even if you request off.

My location is through the campus dining company Culinart, if that makes a difference.

as far as i can recall, if for whatever reason the request off was denied/not within a month, yes you do have to find coverage.

however denial of time off has to have some sort of really strong reason for it especially since you literally cant work those days. its up to the manager/whoever schedules your shifts to deal with it accordingly. since you did it a month before (im assuming) youre in the window and shouldnt have been denied. theres no reason in my mind for you to have to find coverage if you requested those days off correctly.

:/ im sorry you gotta deal with this man. good luck!

Thanks, I'll try and talk with another supervisor during my next shift to see if there's any other option. On another note, I actually just got hired at the campus job I actually wanted, so I'll probably be resigning anyway lol
