We use phones all the time at my store and nobody really cares as long as its not a distraction. The drinks/customers come first but if were just standing around during a slow time everyone just gets on their phones. Its never really been an issue for us.

No one is on their phones on the floor except our weaker partners at my store. It’s not professional. There is a time and a place I think. Taking pictures and having fun when it’s not hella busy I understand but your texting can’t wait lol

I'm pretty sure the official rule/standard is that partners are allowed to have their phones on the floor ONLY for checking the time. They aren't allowed to be on them or using them for anything else while on the floor, which I think is the best way to go. We're supposed to be customer facing, and having phones out seems pretty unprofessional to me.

I for one have been scolded for having it out once, and that time I was not even texting. I typically don't have it out unless I am using it as a tea timer; and I certainly never text unless on a break. But also I work at a store where the SM and at least one shift are as Type A as you can get, so it's one of those stores where "if you're free enough to text, you're free enough to clean the drains again" is law.

Apparently (at my store at least) they're not even supposed to be in your pocket which is something I throughly ignore tbh. I like having the app as a resource if a customer asks me a question about a drink because it's faster than "oh let me go check the hub." I think it's an appropriate use of it personally. Posting attention to your phone instead of the order you're taking is highly inappropriate, even if you don't mess it up imo.

At my store we aren't supposed to have our phones on the floor at all. They have to be kept in our lockers. A few people abide by it but there is absolutely no phone use allowed on the floor. At all. Our rule is "if you have time to lean you have time to clean" even if it's absolutely dead and everything's been done twice over do it again.

We are allowed to use ours for calculators, to check time, date, and use any of the Starbucks apps. We do have partners who text and sm is okay with it as long as it's in boh where customers can't see and your not hanging there for long
