Green bean here with questions about dress code. (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I saw the color palette is pretty limited to black, Grey, white, Navy, Browns...

But what about the subliminal shades of other colors such as maroon? It’s not bright, it’s more a blend of red and brown...

Not to mention my bank is killing me because of trying to find work appropriate wear considering I cannot wear simple black t shirts to work that I can purchase in a multi pack.

I’m actually getting quite frustrated at exactly how detailed the dress code is and want to make a good impression for my store and hit the ground running, but it seems like ANYTHING practical, is out of the dress code.

Is the best way to describe it: “Business casual” meets coffee house?

I would check in with your team and see what they abide by as far as dress code. Because one of my shifts straight up wears emerald green and ruby red shirts and nobody has said anything to her yet. I had to get a brighter than navy blue shirt or two when I first started because I was limited to what I could find on clearance at Walmart and they’ve done me just fine. Another of my shifts wears black Metallica tees. So if your store and SM are lax you could probably very easily wear a maroon shirt. I’ve had a lot of luck with goodwill too for finding nicer shirts in neutral colors.

From what I inquired to for my shift interview, that the dress code is pretty firm in our district sadly.

i have this problem too bc i dress very feminine and bright and the dress code doesn't exactly match that. i tried making the dress code my own but a dm stopped by recently and complained about my WHOLE outfit even though for months none of my shifts or supervisors saw any problem

Yeah, I get that. It sounds dumb but a lot of my stuff is maroon. Like I have this cute knitted beanie that I call my anxiety hat (helps me cope in public I know it sounds dumb) and it was made for me by my future sister in law. Can’t wear it. If I knew about the employee shop sooner I would of ordered things and had them here for my first day.

I don’t know. I personally think they should expand the palette to other colors as long as they subdued, you know? Maroons/ deep reds, olive greens. Etc.

I wear subdued flannel or simple black long sleeve with blue jeans and black work sneakers almost every single day, the black long sleeve shirts are pretty cheap and totally within dress code.

What I don’t get is a long sleeve t shirt is within dress code, but a short is not. They’re both t shirts

I guess short sleeves are seen as more "casual" than long sleeves? If I ever want the wear something a little more adventurous I just double check with the look book

I get by with some plain cheap fruit of the loom long sleeve tees that I got at Target. I’ve walked in wearing a bright green shirt and a burgundy one. I even wear joggers (not the sweatpants material) either black or khaki and I’ve been given the OK to do so. I guess it really depends on your store and district

More than likely. I was confirmed 0 t shirts, even plain ones inside the color palette. It just seems a tad... extreme for a coffee chain. But I suppose they have an image they like to keep consistent.

I guess I get to go shopping today

Well the very first “Silhouette” under the shirts section is exactly what I wear daily, a long-sleeve crewneck. Sweaters are allowed, so say it’s a sweater if anything. I’d say go for it if you want and just ask your store manager if what you’re wearing is fine.

What about the promo T-shirt’s we get? That’s safe. When I started I just went to a couple thrift stores and got plain black shirts, stripes, and a couple dark pairs of jeans. At my store we are allowed to get away with wearing leggings which is great because I am constantly moving at Starbucks. Places like old navy and target are pretty cheap or at least always have sales, and that’s where I get pretty much all of my work clothes that aren’t thrifted. I’ve been a partner for 2 years and I still pretty much only wear black, grey, stripes, or white/cream if I’m feeling risky lol

I think when they say t-shirt they mean the cotton rough material. You could probably do a blend that’s more stretchy. I got a few plain ones for like $15 at target. They also have some striped ones there as well. Those are basically all I wear and nobody has said anything.
