From what i understand, if you're scheduled for 6+ hours, you get a 30. BUT, since you're supposed to clock out for your 30, you only get paid for 5.5. That being said, being scheduled for 5.75 hours only gets you a 10, but since you stay clocked in, you get paid for the full 5.75.
I've been told that continually skipping 30's (that is, keeping partners clocked in for the full 6 hours) gets you in trouble with corporate and/or the department of labor, but I've never seen that happen to anyone, since my partners are really good about giving 30's. Also, there are laws that state companies MUST give employees a break of X time if they work for Y hours or more. Specifics vary from place to place, of course
