Want to transfer, SM isn’t helping (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kediquinn
Hey there, I’ve been a partner for nearly 3 months now. The location I work at is far from me and at the time, it didn’t take that long to get there, under an hour to an hour at most. But because of public transportation changes and maintenance, my travel just doubled to two hours. I’m mainly put at an opener at 5:30am and after two months, my health has taken a hit.

I thought all will be well because a new location opened up just a couple blocks away from home. But when I brought this up to my store manager, he took 3 days to respond and when he said we would talk when he came in, he was late by 3 and a half hours and I had to go pick up my sisters. He didn’t notify me that he arranged to pick up “important supplies” from a different location (which was near by) and left me waiting with just short responses when I asked where he was. Also the supplies, they were magnets, super important right?

I’m gonna give him another chance to talk to me like a decent person but I wanted to ask what are my alternatives or options if he continues to be like this or denies my request? I seriously can’t work at that location anymore due to travel either being incredibly long or a great financial expense for uber rides just to make it on time.

Just call your DM, they have to let you transfer if it’s because of distance and your SM knows this and is procrastinating

This is not okay. My first store was 30 minutes then I transferred after 4 years and it was 20 and now my new store at 6 years is only 4 minutes. My last manager was refusing to transfer me because of “staffing” and I loved my old store but I moved and was driving an hour and a half. I did it for a week and my dm said she would transfer me over to a store that needed me ASAP which the one right by me now. It’s not fair to keep driving when your working for the amount of gas to get there and back and transportation. This is your life. Starbucks never helps us. I have learned that unfortunately the hard way. I have always had their back but when ever I need help it’s never there and I get guilt tripped . I have learned things from my time. 1. Choose your health over Starbucks. 2. Choose distance over Starbucks 3. Choose family over Starbucks and 4. Stop letting them guilt trip you. No matter what happens it works out. I have had everything possible happen or seen the “ worst situation” and guess what. It’s worked out. Please please please choose you. Always.

Omg that freaking sucks! An hour and half to DRIVE?! That’s so much money, I’m lucky to sometimes have my mom pick me up but I don’t want any more expenses used just to get there. Thanks so much, I needed to hear this. It’s hard not thinking like I should be guilty about wanting a change for myself.
