Advice on the ASU Program (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Babs1010
Hello! I am hoping to start the ASU program in the spring and I was wondering what you have to have decided when you start. Can you get basic classes done before you pick a degree? I would be the first person in my family attempting college so I am totally clueless and would appreciate any experiences or advice!

I graduated from SCAP this summer! I’d encourage you to talk to the Starbucks ASU team. They are so helpful and work with you on everything from eligibility to connecting you with your counselors. I’m not sure about the degree thing but if you pick one you can always change it! There’s a lot of general classes in every major so you can work on those and change your major whenever.

I love the ASU program!! The classes are all very aware of the fact that most students are working and so in my experience you’ll have a decent amount of time to get things turned in. My advice though? Stay ahead! It’s sooooo easy to get behind, if you take out just a few hours every day you should be okay. Also, since you’re brand new to college, maybe just start by going part time! Get used to online classes and just college in general. I came into ASU as a transfer student so I immediately picked a degree, so I’m not too sure on that question. However every other school I looked at before ASU, you were able to do gen eds before picking a major so I’m sure you’d be able to with ASU. But definitely start talking to an admissions adviser if you haven’t already! They’re very helpful and will be able to answer any questions you have in regards to that kind of stuff. Best of luck!!
