How many shots in a “Starbucks double shot” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by quality_reading
I had a guest order a Starbucks double shot over ice, and since I’m still a newer barista, I served TWO shots over ice. I handed off the drink and was asked if the drink had 6 shots in it. I was never trained in “Starbucks double shots” and have NO idea how a double shot somehow had 6 shots??? Any veterans know what I’m referring to?

A Starbucks double shot on ice is has 2 shots in a tall, 3 shots in a grade, and 5 shots in a venti.
The way you make it is by getting the tea shaker and pulling your shots, first putting ice in the shaker. When the shots are pulled, throw them in the shaker with classic (2 pumps for tall, 3 pumps for grande, and 5 pumps for venti)
Then shake.
Pour it into the cup and add a splash of 2% milk on the top.
That’s a Starbucks double shot on ice. It should be under the espresso tag on your POS near the top right. It’s a classic drink that can be mistaken sometimes but usually when someone says “Starbucks” before the “double shot” this is what they mean.

Edit: Look it up on the mobile app, it has the recipe on it.

Thanks a bunch! The mobile app doesn’t usually have the full recipe so I hadn’t thought to check!

Yeah no problem! My trainer told me not to even worry about it until I knew all the other drinks because it’s so weird and backwards. You wouldn’t know from the app to shake it and stuff so no problem!

T-2 g-3 cv-5 put shots in a shaker with a volumetric scoop of ice and classic syrup, shake then pour into the cup top off with 2%
mango_drango 3 points 3y ago
Yep, it’s just a small amount of 2% because of all the foam that’s in the drink (which is supposed to be there) also it’s the same number of hot bar pumps of classic as the number of shots so 2/3/5 :)

The Starbucks Doubleshot is different than a doppio. On the pos, I’m pretty sure it’s the top right button under espresso. If you’re making a tall, it gets two shots, a grande gets 3, and a venti gets 5.

To make one, you take an ice tea shaker and fill it to the top of whatever drink line they ordered with ice (like if it’s a grande you’re gonna fill the whole container to the grande line with ice).

Add classic syrup. Tall gets 3 pumps, grande 4, venti 6. Add your shots in, and shake it like you would a tea. Put it in the cup, and there’s gonna be some leftover room in there. Fill the rest of the room up with 2% milk.

It’s a dumb drink but it’s supposed to be like the canned Starbucks drinks you can get.

It’s the same number of pumps of classic as shots. So it’s still 2/3/5 classic and shots.

It gets a standard scoop of ice, not sure if that's the same as filling to a certain line, but it's easier to know that if it's a grande it gets a grande scoop of ice as opposed to trying to measure it out

This is a common thing. Even customers will say “double shot” and mean a doppio. I had it happen today and the barista I was working with had to clarify what he wanted. They’re trying to replicate the double shot drink you can get in a can.

This happened to me the other day, actually. Customer comes in asking for a double shot and I asked if she wanted 2 shots over ice or an actual Starbucks double shot, to which she responded with “Starbucks double shot.” Mostly, I was trying to make conversation when I said that most people don’t really know what they’re ordering when they say “double shot” (hence me double checking with her) when she blatantly comes out with, “well that was fucking rude.” And I’m flabbergasted because in no way was I talking about her, nonetheless *trying* to be rude. It’s just a fact! I’d rather make the right drink than make 2 drinks. I swear, people get so much more offended nowadays.

Can you clarify the difference between doppio and a double shot? As I said I’m a new barista, and nobody in my store can give me a straight answer!
winderbeth 3 points 3y ago
Doppio is 2 straight shots. Iced doppio is two shots in ice. The Doubleshot is always iced, gets classic syrup, gets shaken as a tea, and 2% on top

Thanks a bunch!!!

It’s definitely confusing when you hear “double shot” and think it literally means a *double.* *shot.* But the more you know: it’s 2/3/5 for shots and classic syrup. Venti is the most shots you can get in any of our drinks!

Doubleshot is my favorite but I used to be so confused in making it because I also wasn’t trained on it. And I do notice that sometimes people either make it really well (my coworkers know just how I like it) or some others make it really bad.. could just be that new partners aren’t aware of the recipe.

Pro tip: always put the simple after putting in my ice. My shift used to tell me to put the pumps first but I honestly think it tastes better when the pumps go after the ice.

Thanks for the tips! And it’s probably something with the new partners- my whole store is new baristas and we’ve all been working about 3 months, plus the person who ran our department left after 3 weeks so we didn’t get a chance to learn all the tiny details

Starbucks doubleshot on ice is a signature drink lol... u should look up the recipe/find the recipe card/ask someone at ur store.
quality_reading [OP] 7 points 3y ago
I looked for the cards everywhere, and all the trained baristas have no clue! I work in a Tarbucks and even the person who trained me didn’t know. If you don’t have an answer, then please don’t comment. I didn’t ask just to be told to ask someone else.

Wow.
quality_reading [OP] 5 points 3y ago
You’re ever so helpful, thank you. It looks like you’re new to reddit-maybe try giving advice instead of being snarky with people who are genuinely asking questions.
mysticalcoffeemate 1 points 3y ago
The wow was in regards to your snarky response above. Thanks though. Seeking advice is a great thing. Someone told you to look in the recipe cards and you got snarky. Not everyone knows about those cards, I myself didn’t until I joined reddit, someone saying to look it up in the drink cards wasn’t a bad response.
Shouldn’t have said anything, just don’t know why anyone would be rude for someone giving a simple solution.
You’ll go far in your tarbux though! Keep your head up (-:

Because its a long explanation lmao.

Starbucks doubleshot on ice:
1. Whatever size the customer orders (T/G/V), put a scoop of that size of ice into the shaker.
2. Queue shots (2/3/5)
3. Pump classic into the shaker over the ice (2/3/5)
4. Pour shots into shaker
5. Shake 10 times
6. Pour in cup
7. Add a SPLASH (and only a splash.. this isnt a latte its a sdoi) of 2% milk
~
This is the standard recipe. I hope you share it with ur fellow employees.
