Men’s restroom is out of service at my store(self.starbucksbaristas)

Guy comes in asking to use the restroom
Guy: Can I use the restroom?
Shift: I’m sorry, the men’s restroom is closed at the moment
Guy: oh, what time does it open?
Shift: *tries not to laugh*

Are your washrooms not single occupancy? We've always had gender neutral washrooms which makes sense since they're side by side, single occupancy and are setup the same.

Ours are the single side by side too and when we got our remodel they changed the signs to gender neutral ones. Well apparently it’s a violation of our county laws to have gender neutral bathrooms so we had to take those signs down and but back up the men and women signs. So fucking dumb.

Wow. I know customers always gave me a concerned look when I told them they could just use the other washroom (when I worked at a place with single occupancy gendered washrooms).
Ie. A female tells me the female washroom is in use.
Me: "You can actually use the other washroom, they're single occupancy and identical."
Them: Confused Pikachu Face

Lol that’s what I literally do all the time. We also here have single occupancy gendered bathrooms side by side, identical to each other.
Man: “someone inside men’s room taking too much time”
Me: “you can use the other one sir, no problem”
Some men: *hesitates* “no how come” Other men: *walks right in the other room”

Wow that’s crazy! It’s a violation? Just like someone said, “a bathroom is a bathroom”
bootrick3 points3y ago
It's a law in Alabama and I think one of the Carolinas that we have to have men and women bathrooms.
potterlyfe2 points3y ago
Yeah I guess it is. We legit just put up our new gender neutral signs and then when I came back a few days later they were down. When I asked they said that had to order the male/female signs because it apparently against out county code for gender neutral bathrooms even when they are single occupancy. It’s total bullshit if you ask me.

The men’s is single only. The women’s have two stalls. Its ridiculous how long they have to wait sometimes.

Very funny! At our store we are taking off the signs and making then gender neutral.

My store has gender neutral ones and it's pretty great because you just take whichever one is open. However, one time a man from another country was very uncomfortable with it and afterwards came out and asked me all sorts of questions. We have two trashcans, a big trash, and a small one that states it's for feminine hygiene products. Apparently he didn't realize what that was for and was asking me and all kinds of other stuff about the changing tables and "the little trash can". He was super nice but it was kinda funny to explain the small trash can to a grown man
misfitsem [OP]6 points3y ago
Nice! We need to take after you guys!
mcr041412 points3y ago
Couldn’t he just use the womens? Lol
misfitsem [OP]9 points3y ago
We try not to let the guys use the women’s because the ladies will start complaining. Well allow it when it’s really slow
mcr04149 points3y ago
A bathroom is a bathroom tho! Do you mean there are multiple stalls in each?
misfitsem [OP]4 points3y ago
Right! That’s what I’m saying but we just can’t. No just the women’s. They designed this Starbucks all dumb
mcr04142 points3y ago
Oh woooow that’s so interesting! Thanks for clarifying!
Theotar8 points3y ago
I would have been like, did you just assume my gender.
jackblue20092 points3y ago
Lmao 🤣
TheRosyEgoist3 points3y ago
Both of our bathrooms are gender neutral and accommodate blind people, I thought this was every Starbucks 😲??
misfitsem [OP]1 points3y ago
Unfortunately not our store. That’s great that your store is very accommodating. It makes me wonder why Starbucks didn’t design ours to be gender neutral.
TheRosyEgoist1 points3y ago
I’m not sure, my location was opened about 4-5 years ago and isn’t very big in any aspects, maybe it’s because of our small size?

We have gender neutral bathrooms, but it seems there is always a five minute wait for one
