How should I prepare my sleep schedule? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by infrontofapple
I work evenings at a restaurant typically 5 to 9/10pm. I accepted a position at Starbucks for openings/mornings. My store opens at 5am.

I’m still waiting on my background check so I have time to adjust my sleep. The thing is is that I’m on seroquel but my body has gotten used to the meds so I don’t have drowsy side affects.

What’s the best way to get my 8 hours of sleep? There’s no way I can get it in one full go now. I work 20/25 hours at the restaurant and I asked sbux for 18-25 hours. I guess I just need reassurance.

Free caffeine at work does wonders is all I have to say. That and power naps.

I take melatonin almost every night to help. For me, it works wonders. I take about 5-10 mg and it takes about 30-60 minutes to kick in.

What time do you go to bed? I’m already on 300 mg of seroquel

Depends on when I'm getting up. Anywhere between 9-10.

Say it’s open shift around 4am 😅

I'd probably try to go to sleep at 9. Lol its always rough getting up that early no matter when you go to sleep. It just takes a while to adjust.

My Barista Trainer worked two jobs- Starbucks in the am and her other job on. If she was really tired, she would take a nap in her car before her second job. Also, I love that we wear hats. I don’t have to worry about my hair as much in the am...stick my hair in a pony and throw the hat on. Good luck!

I currently work the opening shift at my Starbucks: 4:30am to 1ish pm, kinda green bean...1 month. I’m soooo not a morning person, but I am loving the opening shifts. I bought liquid ZZZQuil and take a dose of it 30 min before I want to fall asleep. I’ve been going to bed at 9ish, waking up at 3:30am. It’s been working great for me so far. I don’t like Melatonin. Your body gets used to it and it will cause you to increase the dosage.

Omg that’s actually the perfect time for me to go to bed 9-10ish. My therapist says I’ll just need to work it out in increments, and then take naps during the day. It’ll be hard but doable. I don’t live far from work so I can take my seroquel as soon as I get to my car and drive home 5 mins away. My starbucks isn’t far from home or first job either. Like maybe 4/5 more minutes away.

If I were you I wouldn't do it. Find a different job that you can work later in the morning or afternoon because I promise you you'll have a really hard time with this. I have been opening 3-5 mornings a week as well as being a full time student and my mental health went down the drain from the lack of sleep. Luckily my schedule is getting changed in a week or so because I talked to my manager but I'm warning you that it's really really hard to open and have another job/school all day.

How long have you worked at sbux though? My hours at the restaurant really aren’t long. It’s 3 hours long to 5 hours, and it’s not demanding because they aren’t busy. I’m barely making enough to meet rent, much less bills. I only asked for 18-25 hours with sbux. I’m also only evenings at my restaurant and it’s hard to find other jobs flexible and during the day without cutting into my shift
