I don’t understand why customers ask me to reload their Starbucks app card, then hand me their debt card ? Like can’t you just reload through the app ? I don’t understand the thought process there.

They don't want to store their credit card info on their phone.

Not all of them though. Most of my regulars have Apple Pay and have their cards connected to their accounts already. I think it has a lot to do with them waiting until the last possible second to reload their card and also not wanting to deal with possible internet problems or loading times

Sometimes the app gets wonky and doesn’t let people reload from a card, despite confirming that the info is accurate and that there are funds in the account. I’ve experienced that.

at my store it’s actually quicker for us to just reload it. the cell signal is awful and the wifi sign up process can take a while and it takes less than a minute for a barista to do it. ideally, customers would think ahead and maybe try to reload in the car or before they order but ya know. sometimes you forget, or as mentioned, technical difficulty’s with the app.

My soul dies a little each time someone asks but I get the thought process behind it I guess. Like yeah they COULD do it in line and for some people I do think it's laziness but then again it has set numbers that you can load and it's a whole thing.

Might also have to do with the app only letting you reload a minimum of $10. I know I find it frustrating when I have barely enough on my card and just want to reload $5
