i think my manager is going to fire me for dislocating my knee help :/ (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bot-franklin
Hey lads i have a concern. I love being a barista but last night I dislocated my knee and informed my boss that I’ll need surgery and won’t be able to work the Saturday morning shift (this happened late Friday night) to which he responded I am off the schedule permanently and removed me from the store chat on our work app. I’m worried he’s going to fire I don’t want to lose this job. Can he do this? Can I get fired for being injured? It’s only gonna be 2-3 weeks until I can work again and normally am very dedicated and have no issues with any partners. :((

Two things to do here.

1. Speak to your manager about why you would permanently be removed from the schedule.

2. Call the Partner Resource Center and open a case.

It is illegal to be fired over injury, but you have an expectation to call out of shifts by calling in to the store. If you texted this to your manager you may be held accountable for not communicating in the proper way, just as a warning. They may consider it a no call no show.

But I'm just assuming you texted based off how you wrote it above.
If you called, then you are fine.

But I would definitely reach out to PRSC to open a case and find out all your options.

It’s normal that he took you off the schedule, but removing you from the work chat seems bad honestly. I’d ask them specifically and worst case scenario if it gets worse call PCC

I don’t know what your states labor laws are, but I’d look into those to see if they even can fire you over a medical leave. You can also just call your supervisor and ask

I’m sure the taking you off the schedule was because you can’t work right now. How long have you been a partner?
