Drowning in Holiday Drinks [Grande vent, extra caramel drizzle] (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ABedsheetGhost
It's my first holiday season at Starbucks. I'm not quite sure what my actual outlook on holidays at Starbucks should be. We're incredibly understaffed and overworked after losing all of our high school-aged employees and a sizeable portion of college students, losing each of our experienced shift supervisors within a few weeks, and shifting management from someone with decades of experience to a young transplant. I've worked a few consecutive shifts doubling up on roles during peak without a break for 4 hours or more. As a full-time student, I'm struggling when I'm scheduled almost 10 hours over my requested hours, most of which I work through dehydration- and hunger-induced headaches and dizziness. I really want to enjoy my job the way I did just a few weeks ago. Any advice to ease the stress?

Transfer stores. If you don’t trust your SM then work your way up.

Probably a really good idea at this point. Thanks!

It’s going to be rough, won’t lie. But it’ll be the best in the long run for you

Your SM should be bringing in coverage from other stores, and if they can't, then your store's productivity should go down. You being awesome and covering more work is actually enabling them to overwork you. Do not neglect your health. Drink water. Eat. If they tell you you can't call OSHA or your DM.

I need to be better at advocating for myself. I'm a little concerned that the SM doesn't usually consult with people before overscheduling them, especially if it's by a full shift or more.

Bad sign that they aren't consulting. I'm sure they are under a lot of stress too, but they have to concern themselves with the workers they have, before they drive them away.
