Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

Full History - 2019 - 11 - 12 - ID#dv5bcu

Today I learned my store hasn’t had a clean play in over 6 months (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by neophyyte
My shift lead had let me know when I asked about getting on the schedule for it, he told me that the manager doesn’t schedule it. I’m pretty grossed out to say the least seeing as tho the nitro machines are part of the deep cleaning (something that I get pretty much every shift).

Update: cleaned the nitro cold brew machine, the water was almost black and it smelled rancid.

What the heck??? Ours is done every week without fail

Our store manager is an outside hire and hasn't scheduled clean plays consistently in about that same amount of time. She tries to get us to do clean play stuff, such as urnexing, high dusting, deck brushing floors, etc during open hours to save the labor. If we do get a clean play she only schedules us for an hour after close with two people until a half hour after close and three people for the rest of the hour. All of the shift team has told her multiple times that clean plays work so much better when we get the full two hours outside of business hours with three people and she wouldn't listen so we had to get our DM involved. She told him that no one had told her that it was company policy to do clean play stuff after hours and that we had to do one every week....which is just completely not true.

Anyway just wanted to say I feel your pain lol.

Been at Starbucks since August and I still don't know what a "clean play" is

Basically the deep cleaning of all the machines & sanitizing the store. Most stores are supposed to do it weekly, but it depends on scheduling by the manager

There is cleaning done daily. They run tabs in the espresso machines. I Know everything gets sanitized daily in the store like the blenders and ice cups and pitchers and all that. But I thought that was just part of closing shift duties. I don't know much since I'm so new... maybe it's a clean play light 🙄

Personally I really don’t like clean play. Was a much bigger fan of getting stuff done throughout the week than being scheduled for another 2 hours AFTER normal closing time and doing tasks no one else had to do.

After 5 months straight of it I was pretty pissed about the whole thing since I was one of only 2 other people who was scheduled for it every time

THIS it was me and the same 2 baristas for about 6 months before I refused to do it anymore.

That’s totally valid, however our store is really large and has a ton of constant foot traffic making it really difficult to get anything done without being interrupted :( and even without our clean play nobody’s doing any cleaning aside from the general shift stuff :/

Gross. So the ice machines probably haven't been cleaned either? How have you passed health inspection?
4forthepriceof2 5 points 3y ago
You're supposed to clean the ice machines?
amorbaleine 5 points 3y ago
Weekly. With a deep clean cycle once a month.

We just had someone come this morning and take samples of all our ice. I wonder what they will find...I've never seen anyone clean our ice machine. My last day is Sunday so I may never find out 🤔

Oh no that's so gross. Ice machines are notorious for mold growth.

we didn’t have one for a hot ass minute and you could tell by just looking at our store it’s sad that this many stores are missing clean plays especially when SMs are provided the labor to schedule them 😅

Been at Starbucks since June. Idk what a clean play is lol.

Eeek! Gross. You should put in an anonymous complaint to the health inspectors or something. Honestly not sure how, but that is just so bad.

Been at my store for a year and a half and it hadn’t been done once
serenity_flows13 2 points 3y ago
