I am so sick of these people coming into our store 24/7 demanding free things and verbally abusing all of our staff. I don’t think we should be giving them free coffee at my location because it’s getting out of hand and at least 10 people come in and cause drama everyday sometimes to the point where we have to call the police. Everytime we give out free coffee we make the problem worse. The worst experience I had with this was last night when the shift let someone clearly high into the bathroom. This person started off walking into our store with his pants down to his ankles in -11° weather and then the shift let him in the bathroom and he was in there for an hour and then the shift proceeded to check on him every ten minutes. Why should we let them in there just to babysit them to make sure they don’t fucking OD. I’m sorry but our bathrooms should be for paying customers only because that’s so pitiful... sure I feel bad that these people live on the streets but Starbucks is not a fucking homeless shelter.

If you’re having an issue with this in your store, is there any way you’d be able to enforce a “customers only” restroom policy? I don’t work at a corporate store so I don’t know if they’d allow that for certain stores, but at my last job we had to start doing that because we had a sizable homeless population in our area and often found needles and liquor shooters in our bathrooms.

I’m hoping to communicate this idea to my manager soon but she seems to be very keen on just giving into their every need so I don’t know how that’s gonna go

Maybe if you pitch it less as a personal issue and more of a profit issue - for example, checking in on somebody in your bathroom takes away from time spent at work being “productive” - she’ll be more likely to listen. Best of luck, I know how frustrating that kind of thing can be when you’re trying to do your job + be kind to people!

Theres a standalone store down the street from a college in SoCal that has restrooms with a keypad and a daily changing password for paying customers only. It's super awesome but they have it because they had a homeless man o.d. in the bathroom. The area itself had a really bad problem and the keypad helped deter them from coming in

Same thing happens at our store when it comes to giving out free shit to this one guy who regularly causes problems and once shit in our trash can.

Starbucks needs some better fucking rules when it comes to this shit. Or hire people who are trained in security or soemthing. We shouldn’t have to be scared to go to work. It’s a coffee shop. Smh

They’ve decided to put sharps containers in the bathrooms at my store. Apparently over the summer before I started working there someone overdosed and DIED in the bathroom. We’re very close to a homeless shelter and a heroin recovery facility, we don’t see a ton of these kinds of people but when they do come in we’re almost always end up calling the police

I'm sorry, but how far is Starbucks willing to bend it's baristas over a table just to appease whoever decides to walk into a store without even buying anything. Ugh, so frustrating.

Oh yuck! Definitely contact higher management!!!! We have a local who is sort of a town legend. She's an older woman who is very odd. She always causes a scene like this so we have to call managers. The only free stuff we give out at my locations is samples.

We have a regular who's known by first name basis. He scares the day lights out of us sometimes because he stands in odd places in the morning, like by the dumpster. He buys a venti dark and then gets .50 refills within the time frame. He hangs out alot by the front at an outdoor seating area. Sometimes hes not so bad, but when he's using he freaks out the customers that they use the other door to avoid him. It sucks cause our sm and asm want to do more but they've done all they can rn. He's considered a paying customer and he doesnt ask for money or hang out inside.
