Mastrena help! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 7brooms
I’m in a tarbucks and our mastrena suddenly stopped pulling shots. We can steam milk, but it won’t rinse or pull any shots.
We can’t find a manual nor is our facilities guy here. Does anyone have any guesses as to what could be wrong? Or any solutions?

Hmmm I know that if you don’t do the cleaning with the tabs at least once or twice a day it can lock! Is there anyone you can call to come check it out?

Cleaning tabs needed would show error message.

Do a hard power down from the glowing button under the right side of the drip tray to see if a reboot helps.

It’s cause it’s all crusted up on the inside. Get a bristle brush and start working on cleaning the inside. Call your maintenance guy cause trust me you don’t have the skills/know how/tools to do the rest.

We did call. It was working perfectly before, so I’m really confused.

So it’s not a cleaning issue cuz we used tabs last night and tried cleaning it again earlier with tabs as soon as the problem started.

I hope you got this figured out. I just wanted to note that your store should have an Equipment Cleaning and Maintenance Manual and it is your manager's responsibility to make sure that it is readily accessible and everyone (or at least the shift leads) knows where it is. I recommend asking your manager, just in case something like this comes up again in the future. It doesn't solve everything, but it has a fair amount of useful troubleshooting tips to use in a pinch.

We had the spring break on ours a few months ago. Preceding symptoms: pull time starts to swing wildly from short to long, and then the machine stops pulling entirely.

I asked the technician how to avoid the spring breaking, and he said make sure the bean hopper is always filled. If little bits get into the grinder (which happens when the beans are running out), it starts to jam up the tamping mechanism inside. It doesn’t retract all the way after tamping, and eventually the spring on the tamping mechanism breaks.

If this is the problem, it’s not something you will be able to diagnose or fix. Unless you have maybe an engineering degree or worked as an engineering technician. The machine has to be taken apart to see this. Even if you did have the ability to do it, you don’t need the liability of being blamed for “breaking” the machine.

We had an issue a little while ago when pushing up or pulling down on where the shots pull out the tube at the top on the inside was being pinched so when trying to rinse try to move that up and down ??

Sometimes it because the blades are shut after turning the nob too much to one side. Try turning the nob a couple clicks to the other side, either for coarser or finer

Take the hopper off, vacuum it out then Reboot and call it in if that doesn’t work. Not a whole lot you can do if it’s not pulling shots.

Clogged spout maybe? If it wasn’t cleaned well or if a large ground got stuck in it?
7brooms [OP] 1 points 3y ago
We unscrewed the underside of the spout and cleaned it, and any other tubes we can’t really get to.

I don’t have my books nearby as it’s my day off, but is there anyway y’all can check to see if the machine is even getting water?
Lunatics_Apprentice 1 points 3y ago
You need the water supply to steam so if the steamer still works they have water.
