don’t be afraid to joke with your coworkers! they’re what will get you through hard days and rough customers

Mistakes happen but the trick is to *remember* that, that way it's easier to keep a more positive attitude about those mistakes which alleviates TONS of stress and anxiety for all parties.
I've been in the food service industry for over 15 years now and then been doing espresso for about 10 and I'm a month old green bean who still makes a fair amount of mistakes every day, but I try my hardest to just smile through it cause getting upset or embarrassed or afraid of of negative consequences helps literally no one so don't be too hard on yourself when stuff goes wrong!

Just remain positive like the others have said. And try not to take things to heart when being spoken too. A lot of people have a ton of other shit that they take out on whoever they can. Just let that shit slide and go on about your day 💕

Congrats! I am a month-old green bean now and currently loving it.
A few tips that helped me out are...
1. Arriving at least 10 minutes early, so you can be prepared and ready. Also, if you did not eat anything yet before your shift, you could receive a free food item (partner food mark out) 30 minutes before or after your shift and unlimited drinks.
2. Smile! And connect with customers. Making a memorable customer connection always cheers me up, even if the store had a rough night. It’s fun to meet different people and learn things you never knew before.
3. Read the labels! Although sometimes complex drinks are “annoying” to make, no matter what, always make it right! I had a customer come in to complain a few nights ago that a barista was “too busy texting on her phone” and made her drink with milk instead of a non-dairy substitute and she got really sick. Being lactose intolerant, I completely understand her frustration. Always make drinks correctly. Don’t be afraid to remake something if you believe something is missing or wrong. So many things could go wrong if someone had caffeine when they specify no, or vice versa. No matter how crabby the person is, just smile and hand them their drink(s) and you won’t have to see them for the rest of the night. Hopefully. :-)
4. Mistakes happen. And it’s okay! I have grounded up 5lb cold brew coffee beans on the wrong grind, I made a few drinks wrong (but corrected them before handing them off), yelled out wrong order names (instead of roasted tomato panini, I said “roasted toasted panini”), and the list goes on.
I have really bad anxiety and thought that my SM was going to fire me. He told me, “as long as you show up on time and try your best, I can’t get mad at you.”
5. Have fun with your partners! Get to know them, because you never know what you might have in common. I found out one partner loves musicals, calligraphy, and other things. We plan on going to see a musical together! Another partner I invited to model for a photo shoot, and he is now planning on starting a modeling career!
I hope you have a wonderful SM and your fellow partners help you along the way with patience and kindness. Best of luck! You got this!
