Last night was my first day at the drive through window and wearing a headset.
That is something to get used to. I was at the window and the drive through "dinged" someone in the back took the order. No one told me that would happen or how to handle it. Were they (the person in the back that took the order) going to enter it into the POS or was I supposed to?
I also need to get used to talking to a customer that is ordering at the drive through while the other partners are having a conversation on the headset while the headset is telling me low battery all at the same time. Oi. You would think I would be good with it since I taught middle school for 12 years and I would constantly have 1-25 students talking to me at one time. :) I will get used it it. Just need time.

Depending on who the person on DTO(drive through order) is they may want you to type it in, or sometimes they will type it in when they come back from whatever they’re doing. A good rule of thumb for this though is to just ask them when you go onto window if they want you to type it in for them or not. I know personally I love it when the person on window types it in for me so that I can go warm food or do whatever else I need to do.
Also if it does become a bit too much to talk to the customer and hear everything over the headset just slide it halfway off your ear so you can hear the person more clearly and know if something urgent is needed over the headset.

You can always politely ask for your coworkers to pause their conversation while you take the order because it’s difficult to hear the customer. I don’t know if it’s done at other stores but at mine we make sure to stop the conversation the second it dings or finish what they’re saying quick and then allowing whoever to take the order.

Im still fairly new to Starbucks and I can say this, it really does just take time. I felt so overwhelmed at first, like on the verge of crying cause it’s so much multitasking. Especially if it’s busy and you’re the only one on drive. But now I’m able to do food or other things while taking an order. Also once you become better on POS in general, it becomes easier since you can get the order faster...if you’re new to Starbucks (and not just new to DT)

Thank you. I appreciate the positivity. I just take a deep breath and take it one step at a time.
