I’m really new, ive been trained on pretty much everywhere but hot bar because we’ve been so busy. It seems like a fun position but memorizing the amount of pumps and shots seems difficult is there a trick to it? Or is it just more of a get by repetition? I’ve worked about 11 or so days, and kinda stalled my training for a few days because I’m covering some shifts.

My trainer told me it takes about 2 months to feel like you’ve got it all down. I’d say by around 6 months I finally had enough practice on bar that everything was muscle memory.
Just remember, it takes a lot of time and ask questions when you don’t know. Memorize drink recipes when you’re on front register!

That makes me feel a lot better. I feel like an idiot not knowing the stuff lol.

they should have a sheet for you , with shots & pumps. They are suppose to put a sticker on the espresso machine. Cheat sheets help - keep one in your apron & try to memorize it whenever you think of it thru out the day. It took me forever to memorize stuff & I felt like an idiot. Everyone works at a different pace. Just ask for help from someone you are comfortable with. Never ever compare yourself with another barista!

I made a pattern or rather a simple equation to help me memorize. Short gets two pumps so every size gets one more unless its a venti iced which is six and trenta seven. For shots. One one two two or venti iced three.

This might be weird but sometimes I’ll talk or sing to myself when I’m doing it and it helps me remember and know what im doing lol
