Yup! Call, ask for the manager, and say “I submitted an application on x day, and I was just wondering if you received it and are currently hiring?” Worked for me.

And if you call and they arent there and the Shift gives you a time frame to call back, call *then*. We get people who call at night. I tell them sorry, SM isn’t here, callI gotta between 9a-3p M-F is your best bet to get to talk to SM. Then they keep calling at night/on the weekend/during peak, and they get mad that the SM *still* isn’t available.
Or, my fav was when they called at night, I had taken their info to pass to the SM and given the “call during these hours” spiel, and they called back 1 hour later to ask why the SM wasn’t calling them back yet and is the DM in the store yet.
See it as a good chance to demonstrate that you can follow basic instructions. 😬

Whenever I call, I say “Hi, I was just wondering if there was anyone I could speak to about the status of an application I submitted?” (Sounds like a mouthful, but not really). And then repeat the same thing if/when they give the phone to the hiring manager.
I just got hired 2 weeks ago!

Make sure you profusely express you're interested in the position and excited to work there specifically. At that store. Come up with a few reasons why. Even if you don't 100% buy into the cheesiness, managers want to know you're excited.
Make sure to ask them questions about themself like how long they've worked there. Ask what a typical day is like. Make them give you a small phone interview by just striking up conversation. If you get them talking about themselves, they'll feel engaged with you and remember you.
