HA! You thought today was going to be an easy day because people would be with their families celebrating being thankful for what they have. Instead. You’re at work with 3 people and it’s a constant stream of people. You’re 5 drinks continuously behind. Warming never ending. You only got 2 hours of sleep and one of your co workers is telling you to end their suffering.

My store had someone call off because “they wanted to spend time with their family.”
They proceeded to come in to place an order in cafe halfway through my closing shift.
We are down two partners for closing team and people are just finishing shopping.

it was a weird day. It was DEAD 60% of my shift but then 4 families of 8 would come in all at the same time and then it would be busy for 10 minutes and then dead for another 30.

Thanksgiving hit us hard at 9:30am, this was my first Thanksgiving working at Starbucks so I didn’t know what to expect. I hope you all persevered through it! 🦃

I wish we were only 5 drinks behind all night... We were open from 5pm to 12am, and we had cups lined up for the entire time. We had 2 POS, 2 bar, 1 handoff, 1 CS, and our SM floating all night, and since we opened again at 5 we only did half of our normal closing stuff. Still didn't clock out until 1am and had to come back black Friday.

They also do it in the case of staying up too late playing video games or partying (from my experience much more common than anything you listed with the typical demographic of the Starbucks barista, DEFINITELY not babies). If it’s by chance one of your cases, then they should call EAP for free assistance with treating their insomnia or use their health insurance to get medication for their illness. In your case you should adjust your availability so you’re manager can’t do that to you.

Okay. My point was to not be so quick to judge. You don't know why they got 2 hours of sleep and it's none of your business. You're telling me you've always slept properly and taken care of yourself properly? They just wanted to illustrate how much it sucked.
