Oh no... snow!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by berzerkerbarista
So now that the snow is officially upon us, I have a question. I don’t drive a particularly reliable car for problematic snow. I mean... it’ll go but when it’s heavily snowing I really have to be careful. And the way to get to work for me isn’t always plowed. That said, I’m scheduled to open (4:30am) Tuesday but we’re slated to have the heaviest snow then. I’d like to still go to work (getting paid is an incentive) but I’m worried about what will happen if I can’t safely get myself to work. Should I call the SM ASAP to let them know? Or should I call in advance? We’re low as heck on available baristas and I don’t want to put anyone in a place where they open alone. However I also don’t want to drive in weather that could be dangerous.

Suggestions or thoughts? My guess is if I call the SM they’ll direct me to reach out and see if anyone can cover. If not, what do I do?

I’d say reach out to as many people as you can and see if they can cover, and then your SM. keep in mind they have to drive to work as well. I agree its dangerous and your life is definitely valued over one opening shift. If you really feel uncomfortable going, talk to your SSV and let them know, and your SM so you can see what can be done in the future
