Almost crying just thinking about this again... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thenarwhalsbarista
Today I had a woman come in and as she was ordering, she had tears in her eyes, but I didn't get a chance to ask if she was ok until after she ordered. Seeing her crying made me feel like crying with her.
I asked if she was okay and she said "no, it's been a rough week. But coffee will help". I wish I could have given it to her for free, because I wanted to help make her day better. Since I had already rung her up, i just tried to chat with her and call her by name.
My store has a box with slips of paper that say encouraging things on it. A take-one-leave-one type thing. She asked me for a pen and started telling me how they used to do it at her work, but she moved to a different floor and they don't do it anymore. We talked for a bit about it, and how amazing it is to realize that other people have similar problems to us, even when we don't realize it.
The woman left the store almost dry-eyed, and seemed in better spirits as she left. I hope I was able to help her out, because I hate seeing people sad or hurt. I hope she comes in more, because I want to build that relationship with her, and try to make her days easier/a little less sad.
