Ya we had a few my location was by a mental hospital. None were violent just odd. One time my SO was waiting at my work to pick me up he made the mistake of talking to one of our regulars. He showed him his plans for communication devices and rockets. Something not of this world was supposed to come pick him up he just need to build the rocket to get out of the earth's atmosphere. This regular also declined to keep the rest of a cup of breve I had given him (he used so much it was easier to just give him a whole tall cup to himself) on the grounds that to much milk made him cough when he smoked weed.

I disagree with everyone so far. It may seem harmless but I would let your SM know and potentially contact the police. You really don't know his state of mind or his intentions. It seems like he really needs help.

I think you did the right thing by simply saving the note and not necessarily calling the police. It’s a sign he could possibly be dangerous. Not that he is. I’ve seen some homeless folks at my Starbucks that write, do, or say some disturbing stuff. At my previous location, I sat near one regular and I heard him whisper, “She’s a serpent. She needs to die”. I avoided being near him after and told my manager. He never tried anything. And even though I had been the only person around, I don’t know who he was talking about.
