DACA renewal reimbursement question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by werewolfscience
Hello! Looking for some help here and I thought maybe at least one of you might know, I hope it's ok to ask- there has been some recent threads in the r/DACA sub abt Starbucks reimbursement for permit renewal fees and as the cost for it is about to jump from $495 to $765 I'm very interested in trying to get a part time w them. The thing is my renewal can be started May 23,2020- how long do you have to work w them to be able to get this benefit? And is there a certain amount of hours I need to be working to be eligible for it?
I don't want to give up my full time job and I don't care abt health benefits (even tho I am trans and planning to have top surgery within the next year so it wouldn't hurt) I'm more concerned abt the almost $800 having to come out of my pocket for this. I had been planning for the $495 but oof y'all know how it is
Any help or insight is appreciated and if you feel more comfortable dm-ing me your personal experience w this that's ok too
Thanks for reading :)

I sincerely hope that there's a non-shitty reason why nobody is commenting/trying to help you out with this (non-shitty as in, they simply and genuinely don't know how to help, as opposed to the those super shitty reasons which I sadly, don't think I have to explain to you).

My first assumption is that yes, there will most likely be a probation period that you must complete before the benefits are activated (like it is with health insurance) and I'd say that that period would be *at least* 90 days (again, like health insurance).

Second assumption is yes, you will most likely have to work a certain minimum amount of hours each month in order to receive those benefits. It's usually at least 20 hours/month to qualify for health insurance, so it might be around the same for DACA.

**One more disclaimer** - I have no knowledge whatsoever with DACA, so please don't take my suggesstion straight to heart without doing a lil more research first (obviously. lol) but I'd like to at least *try* to help in whatever small way I might be able to.

And maybe try emailing or phoning a district manager saying you have these questions regarding DACA that you just can't seem to find the answers to on your own and ask them if maybe they could help you out? (I'd also try contacting a few DM's and/or some cooperation store managers as well, in case you have a hard time getting any responses). This may be a total long shot, but I think it's worth a try 🤷‍♀️

Sorry that I (and all the other's in this sub who couldn't be bothered by this post 🙄) couldn't be more helpful. I truly hope you're successful in your search for these answers, recieving those benefits and that you have a safe and healthy transition and surgeries. And please know that as an immigrant and trans person (and human being in general lol), I am in your corner and you have my full support and appreciation! Best of luck to ya! 👊👊👊

Thank you very much for replying and trying to help. Your acknowledgement of even the lack of response is touching to me, but I'll assume it's because no one here really knows. It's not the first time I've asked how something applies to me as a minority and been met with "I don't know"- heck the basis of being a "Dreamer" is there Haven't been rules written for us yet- there Isn't a way for us to adjust to a permanent status here in this country (unless you marry a citizen really). But I digress.

As of writing this, I can confirm that the working at least 90 days as a probation period requirement is correct. Apparently the partner hub has details about this and so I've reached out to two people I know and trust that work w Starbucks and asked for help in finding more info. I will keep trying to work w them to find out if there's a weekly hour requirement of some sort and/or any other requirements. And I'll take your suggestions of phoning people if need be.

Thank you for your kindness and well wishes, please know that although I don't know any of your circumstances, I also hope for your wellbeing and good health ❤️
