Everyone that gets mad about these silly drink hacks hasn’t been with Starbucks long enough to feel the burning this company does to us daily. My two year is next month. But I reached my turning point months ago. I watched a great work place get destroyed by greed.
Here’s your refresher with no ice. Next time you’re here order a doppio in a venti cup with some ice and ask for the milk at the end of the bar. Make your latte. They don’t need that extra money they’re trying to bleed you out of.

Honestly? On top of actually informing customers of certain "menu hacks" nowadays (because I'm not actually profitting off the drinks I make, the company is and im being underpaid for my labor), anything we would normally end up wasting at the end of the day, I hand out for free if I can. Like. There's no reason it shouldn't go to someone. How is pouring it out or tossing it any better than giving it out? Warmed extra food by accident? I give it out. The unused teas that get poured at close? I give them out. Things that would be being expired out at close? I tell customers and ask if they'd like it, my treat. Also for our store, the people supposed to pick up our food donations hardly ever come by because we're kind of an afterthought for the district since we're further out and in a rural area.

Yeah. One night we had a young guy come in and hang out on his laptop for hours. I’m guessing he recently got kicked out or something because when we told him we were closing, he asked for food. My coworker gave him like 6 protein boxes that were going out and some pastries and he got so excited. He said “Wow this is enough food for days!” And it was grounding to see something like that. And at that point, I didn’t even care if he was lying. He’s asking for food. Why would I throw it away instead?

At my store the brewistas just take the expired food home. I literally live off of protein boxes and bagels. Its not like I pull extras either, they always tell me “we’re growth oriented, pull MORE food! We aren’t wasting enough!”

I HATE wasting food! As far as I'm concerned, that's a sin! I've worked at a local, small business bakery/cafe that let us take waste, one employee did take it to the homeless shelter. But none of us are making extra simply to rip off Starfucks.

I see posts on this and the other starbucks subreddit whining about costumers trying to save a bit of money, on the daily. Who gives a shit? This company does not care about you doing your part to make them as much money as possible. God forbid your store gets caught up in a scandal because that’s your ass on the chopping block even if you had nothing to do with the issue at all.
The longer I work here, the more I focus on just making the individual experiences of costumers great. I see an overworked father coming up short on a simple doppio? Hey man, just take it. A young student counting pennies for a small iced coffee late at night? Woops, silly me I made a grande by mistake! No throwing it out now, just take it!

This post just fucking dug into my soul. I remember when I hit this point like a year ago. I'm an SSV and I still dont get paid enough to do all I do and nit pick the details. Fuck it bro you ordered and paid for a tall but you want a Trente? It's yours brother, heres the little extra left over in a sample cup, give it to someone on your way out, or don't.
