Anyone else having labor cuts? From what I know the company over spent in the first part of the quarter and now are hacking labor to save face.
If you where around about 3 years ago this happened in the middle of summer. But this time it is two weeks before holidays. Come on... We already sake shit money and now right before Christmas we are going to cut everyone down. I love the company but this shit wears on everyone.

My store cut everyone’s hours by at least five hours, and then one of our partners went on a leave of absence so we got them back 😂

A lot of partner’s hours got cut this next week coming up, but then a new green bean somehow has 34 hours? What little labor we have and we don’t even give it to the stronger partners who’ve worked here longer.

They can call the new persons hours "training hours" so it doesnt count for labor.
tempusfugitt42 points3y ago
They also cut training out in our district. No more training until January for us.
romanianhopscotch2 points3y ago
Even if they are technically finished with the guided training modules?
Tyedyeee5 points3y ago
Yes? Kinda. My manager used to stretch the tules and schedule them a "Practice shift" instead of an actual shift. It all really depends on if the manager knows the loopholes.
Tyedyeee3 points3y ago
Definitely meant rules not tules. Lol
Ziaheart3 points3y ago
I thought this was a hip new young people lingo for schedule.
ColVictory2 points3y ago
Yep! I know managers who do it pretty regularly. It's basically a way to get an extra few hours of labor here and there when needed.

We can’t have any overtime and are on a hiring freeze. I feel bad for our SM trying to balance all of our hours to avoid overtime!
NOTcreative-5 points3y ago
Yeah nationally Starbucks overspent on labor by like $10 million due to people over staffing. We are just pushed to schedule to forecast. For my store in particular business died off real quick leading up to thanksgiving whereas before we were doing over projected so I over scheduled and we were earning it until we weren’t.

I was supposed to train a new baristas all this coming week(s). but they told me they don’t have the money to train for the rest of the year so they cut me. I have no hours for the next 2 weeks. They said their solution was for me to “ask people if they don’t want their shifts”. How am I supposed to live off of 0 hours, happy holidays
hipbs23 [OP]3 points3y ago
Oh that is complete bs. I would call other stores and see if they have any open shifts.
Jewicer4 points3y ago
Yup. SM was freaking out about overtime this morning
Domestica3 points3y ago
Can confirm, lost 5 hours from next week
hipbs23 [OP]3 points3y ago
Same for us! And we need to hire people! My manager had to call like 4 people and tell them there would be a delay in their onboarding.
goose_baby2 points3y ago
Literally just was talking to a peer about how this is some crap they normally pull in August
Toucansam108122 points3y ago
My SM is cutting 15 minutes here and there so no one really gets “hurt.” She is the best.
queerinmesoftly2 points3y ago
Went from over 20 hours to 8 :/
colonade172 points3y ago
Labor cuts are real. After the big chicago meeting they changed the formula. Since then they've also been less likely to approve overtime. My store was told to delay all training until january. I think they're trying to boost profits for the fiscal quarter to try to bump up the stock price.
natbats2 points3y ago
Yup. Went from 27 hours pretty consistently to 16🙃
hipbs23 [OP]5 points3y ago
Make sure if you need benifits you tell your sm so they can keep you at least at 20.
