so today, our saturday morning was oddly slow. but we went with it. some backstory, ive been in the fast service industry for going on five years this summer. so, i know how to run a drive thru with good times and good customer connections, it’s something i pride myself in. i had many amazing connections today, including have an individual leave cash for the next car who drove through who happened to be someone who was recently laid off. when she told me that, i gave her a free cake pop and a recovery card to brighten her day. next, an overly generous tipper who was on her way to a fancy resort in my state. many people asked for my name so they could write in and rave. and lastly, an older couple came through and told me i need to teach everyone in my town how to run a drive thru bc i had created one of the best experiences. this couple happened to come into the cafe again as i was leaving my shift, and i caught them and gave them a hard time. they then turned to my shift raving about how much of a positive experience i had created. and honestly this is why i love my job. that’s all.

That is absolutely amazing and THAT is the BEST part of our job. I had a great connection today and it makes my heart feel good. Plus, you never know who goes through the window and continues to think about you, and hope that you’re having a good day. That’s the beauty of life I guess.

Also, people are always having hard times. I’ll never forget this lovely girl that came through the drive through before school one day. She didn’t have enough to pay for her coffee so I gave it to her for free, and she cried! Maybe she got laid off, or someone passed away, I don’t know. But, I cried right then and there in the DT window and it was beautiful. I’ve seen her back many times since and she always tips when she can. So making someone smile, laugh, or even cry, can really be so great because I think it made her feel loved and cared about, even if it was by a stranger in the DT window for just a few moments.

Who knew hot bean water could get so deep lol

i always try and look out for people who seem to be having a bad or rough day, and who are still polite bc it makes me feel good that i can impact someone’s day with happy bean juice.

Exactly! It’s almost like a step below how bartenders are therapists- baristas are counselors lol
