Became a shift... after 28 days!? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by [deleted]
Hi, so I recently became employed with Starbucks (about a month ago) and my SM promoted me to a shift. Now I will say, I have about 7 years of prior management experience, including 4 in food service. I have the management aspect down, but I’m still new to Starbucks culture, and daily operating structure. Does anyone have any tips of the trade you wouldn’t mind passing on? Thanks in advance!

There are probably baristas who know wayyy more about starbucks than you so lean on them. If you need help it's totally okay to ask for their help. Then make sure everyone knows they're appreciated

One of my shifts got promoted in two weeks. I’ve been here a year and a half and busting my ass for recognition 😂

It's all about being at the right place, at the right time, and in the right mood.

That's not enough time to be a shift imo but support your baristas. You are their leader so be able to flex, when there's tons of drinks help out on bar, drink alot of water, be generous with breaks if the store is super busy give them a 15 rather than 10. Learn how to manage breaks, communicate with your partners, check in with them. Make sure they are stocked up, be the back up customer support.
