Customers please PLEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE you guys are the ONLY ones that can get through to corporate with complaints. I think I'm speaking for ALL partners when we say these labor cuts are ridiculous along with happy hour. We have no problem giving you guys quality drinks and service but doing it with not enough people is just not working, we're burning out and losing the shine that makes us sbux baristas. HH every week ends in december yes but this has by far been the LONGEST month ever.
ThirtyTwoR3119 points3y ago
Can confirm labour cuts going into the busiest time of the year for us was a questionable business decision.
vitamin_bae5 points3y ago
questionable is a super polite way of saying ridiculously fucking stupid
zombi227105 points3y ago
I’ve sent in complaints before, usually for 20+ min wait times in a drive thru I’m unable to get out of (yikes). Each time, I’ve stressed that the employees were super nice, etc, but that it was clear to me there aren’t enough people working. Any time I’ve had an issue, it’s because it’s blatantly obvious they’re understaffed. And that pisses me off. I’ve said in a previous comment that I’m really freaking grumpy. I’m depressed and I’m usually in a shit mood. I’m often bribing myself out of the house with the promise of Starbucks. As silly/ridiculous as that may sound, it’s true. I know how it is to feel like crap and the last thing I want is for the people who are working to make my delicious bribe drinks to be unhappy, too. I want them to be paid well and treated well and not feeling like complete crap. So when they’re purposely understaffed, it really gets my undies in a bunch. Ok, rant over.
michaelbleu50 points3y ago
We appreciate compassionate customers like you. I once had a guy scream at me in drive thru and the customer behind him asked me “are you ok hun? That was unacceptable of him, you’re doing awesome!” And we always chatted after that. Little acts of kindness like that make a HUGE difference in my day, just a small comment can raise my self esteem and mood, so everything you say has an impact. You have the power to make a brewista who feels like garbage smile and feel good, even if its a delayed reaction and they don’t smile right away you have the power!
zombi22723 points3y ago
I don’t understand yelling at anyone, let alone someone who’s MAKING ME SOMETHING. People are weird.
michaelbleu25 points3y ago
I’ve worked food/retail for 7 years, and the amount of abuse I’ve taken from people is just ridiculous. I had someone at a self checkout I was working at throw a gallon of milk at my head because “I don’t like being watched” I was literally assaulted and management did NOTHING. I told 3 people and they did NOTHING. I see it happen in every job, they usually coddle the offending customer, apologize and give them free stuff. Like “so sorry you were so upset you had to assault an employee and verbally abuse them, heres a giftcard so you can come back and continue your abuse”
MonstrousGiggling7 points3y ago
Omg so sorry this happened to you, its...UTTERLY unacceptable ;)
But for real thats fucked.
TinyItalian55 points3y ago
Am Starbucks barista, can confirm my whole store is burnt out. Already lost 2 baristas this month :(
Xxxxxxaavveeeiuh [OP]9 points3y ago
That's terrible but I've seen it happen to stores
shutupbubby5 points3y ago
I quit this month, I was earning less than I did before,,, when I worked,,, less???
nightkat893 points3y ago
Very burnt out, have gotten sick with bronchitis and store is getting mad at me because I’m missing work :/
AcademicArtist971 points3y ago
We’ve had multiple leave since I started in October. One was someone who had been with the company 15years. She was tired of all of the BS. Now we are in a hiring spree to the point we had two people start their training on the same day at the same time. Everyone else was struggling to keep up orders.
michaelbleu45 points3y ago
I’m stepping down as a shift because I’m sick of being told “2 people is enough to get a complete, sparkling close done without going over in hours” at a high volume drive thru. We used to have 3-4 person closes
Xxxxxxaavveeeiuh [OP]13 points3y ago
I can only imagine thankfully I'm just a cafe store but even then it's hard af and all the little tricks that help close times "aren't code or was violations" wouldnt mind doing it right but if I'm gunna get barked at for it I dont think so
baengali5 points3y ago
we have 2 baristas and a shift to close and 30 minutes is simply not enough. i’ve seen slow ass random coffee shops that get an hour or two to close smh
ohthatjoe2 points3y ago
Yeah same here at reserve stores. Not only for closing but for opening too. As far as I’m aware, we’re the busiest reserve store anywhere yet we’re not staffed for it anymore. It’s ridiculous. I just tell my baristas we gotta “roll with the punches.”
Alliiicatttt2 points3y ago
THIS. I just had the most awful close of my life. Complete with my barista yelling at me. This is just ridiculous and unfair to continue to provided the same quality work and get out on time. We are not super human!!!!!!!
Leopold41427 points3y ago
It’s important to remember what we are to corporate. We are the bottom line, we are the path of least resistance when it comes to cutting costs.
These labor cuts which are a clear cost saving measure are especially heinous when you consider how much money this company just dumped on the leadership conference, where they in a classically two faced fashion promised us more hours and “mental health benefits”. Not to mention the untold millions of dollars they spent setting up the newest roastery in Chicago, a store so large and wildly expensive I doubt it will ever turn a profit.
Not only does this company not pay anything near a living wage to its baristas and shifts. But when it comes time to show the share holders that we are always growing and generating more money, we are the ones who’s hours get cut.
This company does not care about you as a human being. You are just the thing that gets in the way of potential for profit.
I see a lot of frustration coming from partners and customers on these subreddits and other social media. I think it’s important to remember we are the ones who generate the money that this company needs to survive.
Through organized labor we can send a strong message to this company.

A coworker of mine has actually been talking about unionizing in our state. But it’s incredibly hard because basically in every state they can fire you for no reason; “right to work” and all that crap. Many people are afraid of unionizing because they don’t want to be fired out of the blue or deal with the stress of legal battles that come with unionizing.
But my coworker pointed out that if we can get enough people, the company won’t be able to just fire us all. It would affect profit.
pyschopete3 points3y ago
I've tried at my store. It's either people are scared, it isnt their primary job, or their misinformed about the benefits of unionization.
Theotar25 points3y ago
Sounds like its getting bad. sad to see Starbucks burn their Employs like this.
decemberisforcynics23 points3y ago
As 4 year partner, I've gone through a lot with this company, but these labour cuts this season are seriously killing morale. I have left every shift the past two months saying "I hate my fucking job and I need to quit." While I am grateful I have plenty of hours to make ends meet, I am not grateful that I am miserable 90% of the time.

crzyshiba-7 points3y ago

crzyshiba17 points3y ago
So sad we all used to love being baristas making drinks not anymore moral has gone down and we’re running around like chickens without a head try to do DTO/DTR plus make drinks get warming do R1 we can not do it all. We need more staff on the floor starbucks is gunna loose some really awesome employees. Get friends family anyone to help, with getting our word out.
Psychedelic_Doughnut3 points3y ago
I still love working here it’s just difficult and frustrating at times when you HH is going and you know you need at least two more people to run the shift smoothly. I love this company and coming to work but just not how our labor is being managed.
crzyshiba2 points3y ago
I completely agree
JustForBrowsing16 points3y ago
Post on /r/starbucks More customers visit there
crzyshiba16 points3y ago
Yes I just posted something about this I feel every barista on Thursday should ask their customers to please answer surveys and comment to have more staff on the floor for happy hour also encourage your friends or family to comment as well especially yelp
desolateinfidel10 points3y ago
It’s been extremely rough. I used to love going to work but these days I almost dread it, knowing my store is the busiest in our district. Makes me sad because I love this job so much but it’s taking such a huge toll on my physical and mental health
shutupbubby2 points3y ago
I’m so glad someone else feels this way, legit thought it was just me
pinkotters9 points3y ago
I’m so so sorry guys. I have seen this happen at a lot of the local stores that we visit. Once during happy hour, I had a barista who asked if I had already used my happy hour promo. I hadn’t but I guess the system showed I had (I had visited earlier, before happy hour, to buy my cousin a coffee; dunno if this somehow affected it) and he exasperatedly just said “you know what, forget it. We’re busy and I don’t wanna deal with it right now”. I felt soooo bad because I understood where he was coming from. My mom was with me and was a little upset by the interaction but working long ass hours with a huge constant line is CLEARLY going to have people stressed like holy shit, I probably would’ve broken down crying.
Anyway, how can we help as costumers? Should we just contact corporate via email and express our concerns or is there another way you suggest we do it?
Koalastars0095 points3y ago
If you really want to help, don’t go during happy hour. Be nice. And don’t scream at any of the employees. And if you see someone who does, please stand up for them.
breetate12358 points3y ago
As a night shift supervisor, happy hours are legit the worse. Without the proper labor needed me and a lot of my team have to stay late and we normally have really high drive thru times. I honestly feel sorry for all the customers and baristas because as we do enjoy our jobs, we can’t do it efficiently for the customers. The night time baristas I have feel overworked, under appreciated and just tired of the company. I think the company really needs to change how we staff the stores
SilkyOatmeal5 points3y ago
What's the best way for a customer to complain to corporate?
Xxxxxxaavveeeiuh [OP]8 points3y ago
Go to your local store ask to speak to the SM Just ask for the DM's contact info, for "personal issues" so you can go directly to the District Manager, after that its Regional Manager beyond that the siren lol
SilkyOatmeal3 points3y ago
Thanks for the info. I'll keep this in mind the next time I'm at SB.
iGrrRS5 points3y ago
Yes. Imagine opening with a shift and not getting another partner until almost mid peak because of these cuts.
sadxtortion4 points3y ago
I always felt that corporate doesn’t care what I have to say. I’ve been there, until I got married I was working for a company that underpaid and overworked us. Corporate looked the other way and my life has been great since I left. I haven’t visited any starbucks recently but I definitely try to be nice and I also leave if they are super busy.
SilkyOatmeal2 points3y ago
For what it's worth, I was at a starbucks yesterday (SE Michigan) and there was a Now Hiring sign in the window.
Xxxxxxaavveeeiuh [OP]3 points3y ago
Oh people can still actively apply and get hired but wont begin training till the next quarter begins I've heard
MahkaylaJ2 points3y ago
As a partner i agree 😭😭
