Customer Support...Good or nah? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dershky17
One of my Shifts puts me on Customer Support EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. for peak. Is this a compliment or an insult? Am I being tossed into a dummy position so I’m not in anyone’s way, or is CS something that some people are good at and some people aren’t??

I’m a green(ish) bean - been with the Bux for about 3.5 months - so I’m not entirely sure how to take it.

I should say, I caught on to everything pretty quickly, and I regularly receive compliments from other baristas and SSVs about how well I’m doing, so I know I’m not totally incompetent.

It’s a compliment, at my store at least. Not everyone is good as customer support, and without someone good it can make or break our peak. We have a consistent customer support person and they’ve worked there the longest! If you don’t like it then make sure to tell your shift that you’d like to switch it up.

They aren’t doing it on purpose. During peak it’s crazy and the strategy is to keep people in a position they are good in. Try maybe asking to try and bar during slow times and just over time you’ll find what you like most.

That’s the thing I don’t understand...I’m comfortable in every position, and I’m regularly on bar during peak with other SSVs. I’d rather not bring it up with her (she’s not the friendliest) but maybe I’ll have to.
It’s not even that I don’t like being CS, I’m just starting to get tired of doing the same thing every morning.

I’m sure she isn’t meaning to do it to upset you in anyway, just maybe try asking next time she sends you there in the morning to do something else. Then tell her that you have been put there a majority of the time, she should understand then if she resist then I’d bring it up to the store manager.

That’s how I was treated before promoting. I’d take it as a compliment. If you’re good at CS (although for my store it’s more of a bar support role) then peaks are much smoother and coworkers are happier as no one is out of supplies. Plus it means I don’t have to be connecting with customers. I love busy work and am totally in the wrong industry. 🙃

...That's old CS.

New CS is going around asking people how their drinks are and making connections.

Bar support in current playbook is normally any flex scheduled, followed by CS only when needed lol.

Some stores have been to busy fully implement the new CS routine so at my store we just mixed it in with everything else.

I’m in almost he same position as you-good to know I’m not the only one!

CS in peak means they believe you can talk to people without it being fucking awkward and can bump the connection score, and believe you can take social cues, and can also flex in to other roles and fix bottlenecks when needed. It's a compliment lol.
