keep getting scheduled without any manager present during opening and closing and being asked to do pulls, but i'm only a barista? is this normal or am i being taken advantage of?(self.starbucksbaristas)

basically what title says. a few times i've been scheduled to work with one other person who also isn't a barista to do closing, now this week i'll be the sole person coming in early to get the store ready before we open. i've also been doing pulls and stuff like that. this has all happened in the month.
is this normal? i feel like it's described to me that the main differences between leads and regular baristas is you running stuff at the moment, delegating, doing pulls, inventory, etc, i'm doing all of those? we were told a shift lead would always be present with us, but now they aren't. they don't do this to anybody else. i don't mind the work but if they're using me as a de facto shift lead without giving me that raise i don't like it lol.

The floor can be without a shift for up to 30 minutes. There must always be a minimum of two employees working (or on their break at the store). You must be 18+ and a shift supervisor to handle money at all.
Those are the main policies I know off the top of my head. You DEFINITELY cannot open alone. (or close afaik). But it sounds like there are some violations happening.
However, everything I said is null if you're a licensed store because they have their own rules and are just wild. Then your manager may *technically* be in the right (not morally)

Pulls and counts are done by shifts in my store. These tasks aren’t covered during the normal training to become a barista, so I’m not sure why a barista would be expected to do it. I’ve heard my manager tell the shifts that they can delegate a barista to do the pulls and counts, but none of them want put that responsibility on us.
Are you opening and closing the store with a set of keys or how is that working? That seems super shady.

Unless you’re a licensed store it’s illegal for you to open and be in a store alone. Talk to the person making the schedule. Sometimes it comes out wrong and they miss it. Last week I was scheduled to close alone, but it was wrong. So I’d double check. And then if it does end up being intentional there are laws being broken.

In my store all pulls and counts are done by baristas. The idea is to have shift supervisors as floor coverage as much as possible.

Isnt that super backwards? At my store the baristas would never do a pull. The closest is sometimes taking the morning pull and filling the pastry cart, so the supervisor can get other tasks done and start on the pull

Our customer connection score is in the toilet, so my SM has been trying out ways to get the people with the best customer service skills on the floor more (and the people with the worst customer service skills on the floor less)

I mean, I can see where your SM is coming from, but I think coaching those partners on proper customer service skills instead of allocating non barista tasks to someone not in the pay grade for that responsibility is a better idea. I know some people can be lost causes, but then at that point they need to be told to fix their attitude or get a new job

My SM is a weenie who give low performing partners a million second chances, avoids giving out corrective actions as much as possible, and refuses to fire them, even when the entire SSV team is coming to him to say we've tried working with this person and it's a lost cause.

Same here. Baristas do the pulls and sometimes the count. The pull is easy and honestly I welcome the opportunity to be off the floor for a while. As explained to me the shift only does the pull as a last resort because their job is to stay on and run the floor and delegate the positions.
