POS training question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TwiggiestShoe
I work at a license store and training is almost non existent for the register. First day on it I was thrown into a very bust rush that lasted all morning and I was so stressed the whole time. I wanted to give customers a good experience, but when I have to ask someone to help every time it sucks. I was curious how those of you at corporate store handle training on thr register. Or others at a license store, how did you learn?

Thanks to anyone with advice.

Corporate registers are the easiest thing to learn imo. We have a touch screen where every single thing is literally spelled out for you, there’s different tabs for drinks and it’s own button for basically any and every customization. Just gotta click around at find it until it becomes muscle memory. At the licensed store I worked at we had to use PLUs so we had a little binder by the reg that we flipped thru and had to type the number code in. Was very annoying, we didn’t have a way to input everything so we relied on cup marking for making the drink right, we almost never had an accurate price for drinks customers ended up getting them cheaper than from corporate stores just because no one ever helped us with the register. Also can’t do everything with the Starbucks card that corporate stores can do, so that upsets customers too. I would go directly to someone higher up than the person NOT training you and let them know. Also just explain to customers you’re a licensed store and not corporate so things are done a little differently but the drinks SHOULD turn out the same. Every time a customer complains make note of it and use it as another reason why you need better and more training

I'm at an airport with multiple locations and sometimes not every location has a supervisor. Seems to be it just depends. It's my first week and it's happened twice. I've hardly seen the Manger of the stores. I've felt with her boss more than her. The menu is just full of abbreviations. I wish it was spelled out. We also have to remember them to write on the cup as well, because we don't have the printing labels. I had no idea that Corporate stores had the drinks spelled out.
Additionally no one supervisor and eats food when ever they feel like it. I'm still not 100% sure we should make our own drinks for free, but it gets done. Anyway, that's not what this post is about.
