Labor cuts rant...WTF (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hayyy188
I’m so pissed how they’re do labor cuts that is so stupid. Yesterday made me realize that my store is such a high demand during the holidays and cutting hours is leaving the people there under staffed when we have a long as line in drive and in store. They need to realize that what they’re doing is STUPID. The amount of people that call off is ridiculous. Hopefully they will realize how stupid this is (probably not lol)

It's totally effecting our ability to offer the quality service we want to. I hate having long lines but more importantly being slow because we don't have the labor to be able to deal with it.

I SO AGREE WITH THIS!!!! We get so many complaints because we are stressed and overworked. If we had enough staffed we would be fine and Ave less complaints

They will see upward movement in stock with less labor, so they will probably keep cutting.
Without Howard we got no one defending our position stability.
Best thing to do is call corporate/ DM explain what’s happening. If they don’t listen, start looking up best ways to protest.

Surely we’ve all been vocal enough already. I know for a fact that our DM truly gives no shits whatsoever. He drove away our last SM and now the store is a shit show. The frustrating thing is that some of these DM’s (mine in particular) have never worked a day as a barista. They don’t know what it’s like working these shifts understaffed. They don’t care and won’t.

On top of all this, I’m trying to live on my own and recently just quit my second job to take a Shift Supervisor position. I’m starting to worry that this job alone will not cover the cost to live even with barebones necessities. And I with the sporadic scheduling it’s impossible to find consistency to even pick up a side hustle.

Nothing like providing a low wage and crazy schedule. This way you can work other jobs, or provide for your life needs. Good thing we work for a multi billion dollar Corporation that would never do that. O wait.

When I went to protest they had our regional manager meet with me and I got 17 an hour. You can not get in trouble for protesting as long as you follow the rules.
I was planing a hunger strike before they gave me my pay increase. This strike works good cause you can buy food anyways.

Don't forget to connect with every. single. person. while you're understaffed and stressed 🙃🙃🙃 I was told I had to coach a partner who jumped on food who didn't connect with customers when he called their food out since he had to immediately jump back on backed up food. I pointed out how backed up food was and that DT was waiting on food but was told connections are more important then catching up. Guess it's better to make customers late and be the highlight of their day somehow💁‍♀️

Yeah because that makes the most sense 🙃

What I need to understand is .... how on earth do we get a congratulations for making profit year after year while still having to cut labor? They even raise prices during the holidays on certain items. Why are they putting so much pressure on us when we have been doing so good? My store has had continuous growth since we opened 3 years ago and we have a great team so why are we being punished?
Jezi_Belle_ 3 points 3y ago
Because growth isn't good enough. It must be INFINITE growth. A video game developer I used to really admire made record profits in 2018, but they still didn't meet growth *projections* \-- they predicted they'd break the record by 40%, for example, and only broke it by 20% -- so they laid off *EIGHT HUNDRED PEOPLE.*

Late-stage high-level capitalism is fucking broken.

Up protest and organize

Lol my store is emphasizing "head up baring" and obsessed with raising customer connections. It's not possible. Time and humans have limits.
babybennie 5 points 3y ago
I feel this. Currently 6 hours into a shift from hell. We are so understaffed it’s insane.
Jezi_Belle_ 3 points 3y ago
We literally had a barista LEAVE IN THE MIDDLE OF PEAK on my last shift. At 8:30. Fuck's sake.

What if he get a bunch of baristas and flood corporate with emails or letters?
