Considering moving to a tarbucks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Nalshyu
Any Starbucks shifts/baristas switch to a Starbucks in Harris teeter, Barnes or even target and felt a change? I honestly can’t stand where I am currently as a shift supervisor with the way the customers act and the shitty happy hours.
Can anyone who works in those locations kinda give me an idea of what I’d be walking into?

Try to find one that's been operating for awhile, at least a few years. Licensed stores typically start off with 12-13 people with no barista experience. It takes 1-2 years to get it running to Starbucks standards bc target is stingy with training hours. I'm currently 3 months into operating a brand new tarbucks.
Before we opened, we each got 20 hours of shitty training at another Target in town, it was another 2 weeks before we actually opened. I was the only hire with corporate store experience (8 months), so I ended up basically running the whole thing after my manager got fired for harassment after 1 month. 2 months later, they're dragging out the hiring process, while I'm running it for no extra pay and with no support from management.
High volume, established stores are best, if you can find a Target anchored to a mall, that's your best bet.

Great informative post. Does Target offer health insurance? That's the only reason I wouldn't switch.

They do offer health insurance but even the lowest tier is pricy. I looked at it a while back and so I don't remember the specifics. Sorry.

I left a tarbucks to a corporate ad a shift and honestly at the tarbucks you do everything a shift does without guaranteed hours, solo shifts, no breaks, and Double the Karen’s. I feel at least at Starbucks I was able to relax a bit because I had more partners to run a shift. I got paid a bit more than I was at tarbucks. Plus you lose all your markout( free drinks, food, coffee, ) and you only get 10% off. Plus you lose tips, the insurance is only offered if you’re full time (35+) but only team leads basically qualify. I stepped down at corporate and work 25 hrs and still get health insurance which was a big plus for me!

Yeah! I just switched to a target Starbucks... honestly, so much better. It's a lot less stressful and more enjoyable. I get paid almost $4 more now too. Also, the dress code (at my store at least) is so relaxed. The only negative is you often will be working alone or with one other person. Overall... I like it so much better.

Honestly working alone sounds kinda fun, at least when it’s not peak

just as a reminder, with licensed stores you’re not really working for starbucks, you’re working for the target or whatever store the starbucks is in. you won’t get starbucks benefits or pay wage. i work in an ingles (a southern grocery store) kiosk and i love it, other than the fact that i’m working for $10 an hour with no tips or benefits. not as many people work in a kiosk though. mine has around 12 employees and only 2-3 people work in it at one time. it’s a great chance to actually get to know your coworkers. i cant imagine a corporate starbucks gets to do that. basically just weigh your pros and cons and decide what to do from there
