The money doesn’t go into your pocket. they are already paying almost 5 bucks for a drink, just give them the extra milk and move on with your life. lol. it’s not that serious.

This. So many of our baristas get personally upset if customers try these little workarounds. They don't understand that Starbucks takes everything into consideration when deciding their prices. That entire box of almond milk is costs less than their caramel macchiato.

For me it’s not about the money. It’s if we let a customer get away with this kind of order you now have become “AT THE OTHER STARBUCKS THEY ALWAYS DO IT LIKE THIS”. Now you have a customer who goes to multiple locations, being rude to baristas just trying to do their job. Getting screamed at for charging a person for their beverage the correct way is shitty. We have a standard for a reason. I usually let the person have it their way the first time, I let them know that they are incorrectly ordering and being charged incorrect, and that I’ll ring it up this time, but next time they will be charged for what their beverage actually is.

Maybe she didn’t want more shots, more syrup, etc. it’s just milk. It’s not your money lost. Let it be.

The only difference between a grande and a venti hot caramel macchiato is a pump of vanilla and the amount of milk. A grande gets three pumps of vanilla and a venti gets four. I would ring them up for a venti with one less pump of vanilla. If you want a venti amount you should pay for a venti amount. When you enable customers who order like this (to “cheat” the system) you end up bolstering their sense of entitlement and it creates problems down the line when they go to other stores and those stores charge them correctly.

I was thinking iced for some reason. That’s understandable they shouldn’t act entitled about it ever.

Also, the company can choose to restrict such an order, but they don’t. I feel you would all humble yourselves if you met one of my regulars, who ends up conning her way into 3 drinks for the price of one. Just make the drink and avoid a temper tantrum.

It’s crazy how you can’t mod ur drink huh

Yeah, we have a couple people at our store that do that. One of our best baristas actually told them to order it that way because it helps them not pay extra for espresso they don’t want. We add milk to drinks for free, I don’t think this one should be a problem honestly. I also let the people ordering that it’s cheaper this way. Not everyone is out to trick the system.. some people just don’t want that much espresso in their drinks.

1. A grande and venti have the same number of shots
2. The issue isnt that they're getting the drink for less money, starbucks can handle that. But it screws with inventory if people do it on a consistent basis.
3. Any other cafe in the world would laugh at you if you asked for this. Why are these things considered acceptable at starbucks?
Remi-Chan 3 points 3y ago
Because starbucks survives off enabling customers to act entitled and rewards them for throwing tantrums by "making the moment right". Starbucks doesn't care, they make money either way.

1: When we are speaking about hot ones yes, I’m sorry, I was thinking of an iced one because usually that is what the customers I am thinking about get. So I’m sorry for that, that was my mistake.

2: I don’t understand how that messes up inventory? When you ring it in it would be Grande hot caramel macchiato in a venti cup, 4 pumps instead of 5 (no extra charge), extra 2% (also does not charge extra). Everything is accounted for so I don’t understand how it would mess up the inventory

3: No, I truly don’t think that they would. But that’s your opinion and that’s fine lol.

*i meant to say 4 pumps instead of 3*
jackissosick 0 points 3y ago
It's the amount of milk that isn't accounted for. And go ahead and try that at a real cafe
serenity_flows13 1 points 3y ago
There’s zero way to make sure all milk is accounted for. According to that logic.. all iced coffee with milk ruins inventory because we free pour everything. There’s no way to track milk down to the drop like that. What about ANY time someone is handed their drink and they say “could you add more milk to this”?
