Out of all fast-food/coffee house /whatever you want to call Starbucks ... I feel that the amount of effort you need for this job is too high. I worked crappy jobs before I got a job in my field but I always figured Starbucks employees were getting paid above minimum wage. I worked at Dunkin in high school and the amount of effort is less than a Starbucks barista.
Working for the siren helped me by leaving a really physical intense labor job. The mental drain though caused by this job, was probably the worst.
Not all baristas are perfect or respond in the way we should have, but it doesn't give any human the right to belittle someone over food. In my mind at least, it's not the end of the world.
I watched multiple of my old co-workers cry and have anxiety attacks in the back because the amount of stupidity coming from customers was too damn high. I was one of them too. Coming in and just thinking of what could happen today?
Back in the day Starbucks was the place I would go to do homework, drink a grande pike and sometimes my cakepop. Now, I rather study in my University rather than hearing literally nobodies mistreating baristas who have no saying in what Starbucks has for their rules.
Tl;Dr ... I don't miss this job once. It played its purpose but this job needs to pay employees minimum 3-5 dollars above minimum wage. Mostly because it needs to cover your insurance cost, and the amount of memorization you have to learn is comparable to a curriculum. The physical level plays a part because half the time I was running around and came home sore and mentally drained .
Starbucks has money, they can pay their staff better 🤷🏽♂️.
I always chose not to memorize everything because Id rather memorize data structures or things that trully matter. I always was thankful for those who I'd always ask and knew how long does a bag of matcha last ...or how long does a lemonade last.
