Espresso macchiatos (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by espressnooo
Can someone explain to me the standard way to make an espresso macchiato? I'm a year old partner, pretty dedicated to the job. I know a lot, and I know espresso macchiatos are how ever many shots they want with steamed 2% and foam on top. I have this regular that likes his quad espresso macchiato extra dry, so I scoop out the dry foam and put maybe 3 tablespoons of foam on top and he loves it. He always tells me I'm the only person he prefers to make his drink. He loves it. However, this is from pure luck. I just guessed one day and he loved it. But, I'm confused sometimes when a random customer will come in and order a regular (however many espresso shots) macchiato, like for example: how much milk should I put in the cup altogether, how long do you recommend steaming the milk, and whatever else I need to know related to these types of drinks? They're confusing, and personally not very straight forward like most of our drinks. Idk just help pls

The standard is just shots with a “dollop” of foam. No milk.

So when people order extra dry doppio macchiatos what does that mean then?

It means they don’t know what an espresso macchiato actually is. Probably from another location making it wrong so the customer thinks they have to order it like that.

I figured this was the case because it happens so often. Thank you so much! I never poured too much milk in to where it was considered a latte, but I was always confused about how much foam goes in there and if any milk did, but now I know!

It just means that no stores get it right so they are trying to make sure no one pours milk into their espresso macchiato.

There shouldn’t really be any poured milk. It should be shots with about 2 scoops of just foam!

From my experience and the experience of a lot of other people I've talked to, the standard (at least at my store) is to make it with milk, shots and foam, then get yelled at by a customer because it's supposed to be just shots and foam.

Then you curse the fact that no one told you this earlier

You dont use short cups? I'm glad I dont have that problem.

And yeah, I'll never understand that entitlement. This one guy got pissed off bc we kept trying to charge him for a double tall almond milk latte.

Obviously, it should have been a double espresso in a tall cup with steamed almond milk to the top with no foam fucking duh every other Starbucks does it for him and he shouldn't have to pay five dollars every day for his coffee because he works hard for his money and we're just selling overpriced coffee. Hahahaaaa fuck me, right?

Yeah, no, I get that. I just never saw anyone try and put shots in a tall cup.

At my store we will absolutly fight you. Like, sure make the moment, assume the best but when we know it's a scam SM will usually let us do what we think is right.

Latte Macchiato: Latte marked [with espresso]
Espresso Macchiato: espresso marked [with foam]
espressnooo [OP] 1 points 3y ago
I mean not really. Not if you haven't known much about coffee before working here. And a latte macchiato is whole milk. Which could be easily forgotten. I'd say it's easy but with all the different drinks we have it doesnt ever hurt to ask questions. Its hardly a drink anyone ever orders and a lot of my shifts are completely misinformed about the drink. I had to look this up for myself and ask questions because even my shifts couldn't give me a right answer.

this throws me off with cappuccinos wait wat. Im used to macchiatos like how we make caramel macchiatos. But espresso macchiatos r just foam and espresso? im much confusion. 😩
teamshatt 6 points 3y ago
Macchiato means marked. So in a caramel macchiato the espresso on-top of the milk marks it where as the espresso macchiato is marked with foam. :) Hope that helps.

Espresso Macchiato- 2 scoops of foam and you mark it with espresso. Shots on top. Just like a con pana. Whip, shots on top.
danielleboww 3 points 3y ago
Espresso macchiato is shots marked. Shots and a dollop of foam on top. Con pana is espresso with whip on top. Latte macchiato is latte marked, shots on top.
