Pop-up after Labor Cuts... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by gingervitis_93
How is everyone feeling about this whole pop-up thing?? I don't believe my store is doing it (thank GOD) and I didn't even know about it until a friend told me about it today.
To be honest, I love working for Sbux. It's been fun and great! I've honestly enjoyed it. I love connecting with people (who are nice), getting to know regulars, seeing the puppies in the drive through, making friends with coworkers, making the drinks, etc. BUT THIS IS INSANE.
Labor cuts are happening and debilitating stores and their partners cause it's apparently necessary. And now 200 different stores EVERY DAY are giving away FREE ESPRESSO DRINKS FOR AN HOUR... How much money is being lost there??? Probably a LOT more than it would take to properly staff shifts...
I apologize for all the capital letters, but I'm just flabbergasted. I don't understand. This is the last straw. I can't honestly say that I think Sbux is an amazing company to work for anymore. We're all exhausted and overworked due to labor cuts. Now they're adding unimaginable stress on all partners in participating stores by doing these stupid pop-ups. For a company that's supposed to love and support their partners, this isn't it...

TL;DR: I'm incensed about the pop-ups after labor cuts. How about you?

I got an ad for it on Instagram and I was appalled. Labor cuts 1. During the holiday season 2. this month every Thursday was a happy hour (it's been hell for my store) 3. Now this bullshit. We aren't getting paid enough for this and I see my partners struggling and suffering because of this. They claim to really care about us and be on our side but I don't see that whatsoever. My heart only goes out to the partners who's store have to do that.

This is why we need a union

To me it looks like an attempt to pull in more customers. Makes me wonder if sales have been dropping.

It seems like a marketing thing to me. But why would they need to do that? Starbucks is so well known. And even if sales have dropped and they're losing money, how does letting hundreds of thousands of dollars walk out the door help?

If they give away 4 drinks and next week 2 of the people come back, and then they keep coming back for a few weeks, they already made the money back.

It’s why drug dealers give out free product.

Mmmm. That makes sense. Still seem ridiculous
