Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. 20 drinks deep on bar. Mobile orders keep coming. Understaffed. Overheated. The staring from customers in cafe. I’m not okay today. I wonder if anyone else feels defeated today. It’s only been 2ish hours and I’m on the verge of tears.

Yep. I just made a similar post. I'm with you in solidarity. Had a full on sobbing panic attack mid shift today. Not because of the orders, because of the way people expect them to be ready as soon as they leave the register. It won't be this busy forever. It'll calm down in a few weeks. Don't let them break you.

I’m a regular customer and mom of former employee; I see you and hear you and you are doing a great job. You can only do your best with what you have and you’re not responsible for the misplaced anger, impatience and frustration of other people. Stay with yourself; you’re awesome. ❤️

My solution with at your comfortable pace and if customers doesn't like the wait ask nicely they will happily refund your order and eventually someone will complain to upper and have to add more labor hours and staff

As a 7 year partner I’ve had many instances where I have cried and times when I wanted to quit. The best advice I can offer during times like theses is to just work at your own pace. It’s just food and drinks. If customers have an issue with you “taking too long” offer an apology and a refund. Do not stress yourself out. They walked into the place knowing it’s busy so in return then have to wait. Don’t let other peoples inability to be patient take you out if your character and don’t let it break your focus. If they want to go off then get a shift or manager to de-escalate the situation. Let them complain to corporate. All these issues stem directly from their labor cuts and high demands for customer connections. Continue to smile and sling those lattes! I know it’s hard to not react but I’m telling you this has helped me so much. I wish you all the best of luck.

I feel you :/ I started checking the time on the stickers to see how far behind I am on lobby and mobiles and just start letting people know as they walk up waiting for their drinks that I’m however minutes behind on drinks. Maybe it doesn’t do anything, but it makes me feel like I’m communicating better and it’s lessened the amount of angry customers I’ve come across the last few weeks

Something important to do in that situation is to make sure anybody taking orders on front or drive thru is telling customers ahead of time that there’s going to be a wait and they can’t be afraid of overexaggerating the queue if the customer asks how long it’s going to take and they’re unsure. People are going to be pissed off if they don’t say anything or tell them five minutes and it’s ten. It’s just good customer service to say something and in my experience customers are usually very grateful, even if they’re annoyed, that you told them ahead of time before they got stuck waiting. Talk to your supervisors and maybe your store manager about this. We do this at my store and it saves everyone a lot of grief (and refunds).
That being said I always remind my baristas that angry customers can’t do shit about anything. They can throw a hissy fit or put in a genuine complaint but if they throw a hissy they’re an impotent child and who cares and if they put in a complaint you can point to goal and point to the actual numbers and those two things speak for themselves.
All that being said I’m really sorry you had a rough day (or many rough days). Hugs.
