Killing me softly with his song (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I need some advice here. One of my partners sings (every day)over the headsets. Thing is, she can’t sing. At all. And usually, it’s the same one or two lines of the same song, off key, over and over again. Nobody says anything but it gets to the point where you feel like you’re going crazy. Is it better to say something or to slowly die inside?

Oh gosh. I can so relate, but because I’m one of those that sings. While I’d never sing on headset, I do tend to break out with a line or two if I hear a song in the store that gets me jazzed. But, overall I tend to sing when I’m anxious or stressed. So keep that in mind, but even so, you shouldn’t be subjected to that if it’s aggravating or distracting. Maybe use the distracting excuse if you say something? At least that way you won’t have to comment on the talent.

Oh gosh, that sounds absolutely horrible. I guess you could either talk to that partner or a supervisor and frame it like “Hey, we know you’re trying to be funny and mess around but the comms systems is really for us to communicate regarding work and to keep a level of professionalism consistent, I think that the singing should stop. It distracts from customers and keep me from doing my job to the best of my ability.” Or something along those lines.
