Crying over steamed milk (self.starbucksbaristas)

So last night a family comes in. A husband and wife, an adult friend, and 4 kids. I take their order and get their drinks, no problem. I guess one of their family members was meeting them today at our store.
He comes in and orders a tall steamed whole milk at kid’s temperature. Not an issue, except I had been on regi all day and had not realized that we were out of whole milk. The guy on bar, whether purposeful or by mistake, uses two percent and calls out the drink. All is fine.
About 10 minutes later the customer comes to the handbar asking if his drink was whole milk, apparently we have a connoisseur in the building. The guy on bar tells him we are out and that we can refund him. This milk wasn’t for one of the kids btw, I saw him drinking it.
I start the refund and as I’m pressing the buttons he starts insulting us. I tell him “sorry, man mistakes happen.” To which he replies “is that all you have to say!?” What else does he expect? Does he want us to all get on our hands an knees and apologize and milk a cow ourselves to get him his most holy of drinks? I refund the furious man his grand total of $2.45. He walks away muttering under his breath.

Mixing 2% and half and half creates the same texture as whole milk. Also it's very annoying when customers don't get that some stuff is just out of our control, and that not everyone orders the milk

Crazy. I always try to remember it’s usually unrelated stress coming out in the form of a wrong drink.
Maybe he’s getting a divorce or something. Who knows, but that could be why he lashed out over milk. Crazy tho

I would say use alternative words and never apologize. I notice customers get belligerent when you claim fault.

Maybe he’s going through something. I would really hope they wouldn’t get what worked up about something as silly as milk. Unless it’s allergies related (which I guess it wasn’t) and throwing a fit for &2.50 is straight up silly tbh
