You work as a team and get tipped as a team. It wouldn’t be fair to the baristas that always do CS or warming if they never got tips since the shifts run the floor. It’s fair and is a great system compared to other companies tbh. Try picking up shifts at other stores too! You would then get tips from that store as well.

I get that but I think then they should work on the hour tips, I've been given 15$ straight by customers, that should be mine to take, at least any tip over 10$...

I’ve been tipped $20 regularly and I would never just take it. Because I’m STILL getting tips for the week, which others have also earned, so why am I any more special than anyone else? It’s a team effort.

The only time your allowed to keep tips to yourself is if it is given to you in a sealed envelope with your name on it

I will say our SM and store is awesome in that everyone agreed to only split Thanksgiving between the people that worked that day like we do Christmas.

Eh, the tipping system is pretty fair, even if I'm the one on front or on bar or drive thru window and someone hands me a tip. I am not the only person in the store helping make their experiences great. I'm just the customer facing partner. And for anyone to think they deserve more than others for that reason is what would be bullshit. It take a team to run the store and that team gets split evenly based on how much they work.

This is pretty much how I explain it to my green beans.

Massachusetts has laws that prevent managment from participating in pooled tips. Therefore shift supervisors who have management duties aren't entitled to tips. Starbucks in that state doesn't have shift supervisor but shift managers instead. I thought the company would do this across the board. Unfortunately I was wrong

So if I am reading correctly and I could be wrong, shifts do not get tips in Massachusetts? That seems wrong on all accounts. Unless they are being compensated quite differently. I get ASM and SM not getting tips, they make way more money then we do and, atleast where I am, are rarely actually on the floor. I am a shift and i would be quite annoyed if i were not getting an even share of the tips for all the hours i am on that floor helping run the customer experience.

Starbucks restructured the store hierarchy to accommodate the new shift manager position and pay them more than when they were supervisors. I am not aware how much more. This happened either 2013 or 2014. In my opinion, at least in the south, shifts practically run the stores and are not paid enough to compensate all the work they do.

Oh 100% I am in the north east and the shift team pretty much runs the store and does everything except make the schedule (which I actually know how to do and have had to do in the past for managers, as well as DCRs) and do payroll. Shifts are definitely not compensated for the work they do anywhere probably.
