Yes, the hot version gets hot water. The iced version does not get water added.

Yes, it is standard to to cut the steamed milk with hot water; however, I will be honest and say that I have never done that before. Primarily, because it does taste better, but in the midst of a rush, it tends to take away from the time I could be using to set up my next drink.

Just a tiny heads up, it’s not up to us to alter a drink because we don’t like the standard. It’s set that way for a reason so customers get the same drink everywhere. So sad.

You are right. I just learned that it gets cut with hot water about a month ago. I have never seen a partner use hot water until I overheard someone ask for no water. I truly thought it was just milk and chai.

And to the speaker, I apologize for giving wrongful advice.

Ask the customer, it’s never hurts to ask. If I ever have any doubts about making a customers drink I always ask. I don’t want them to leave with something they don’t enjoy. Even as a mobile order, when they come up to grab their drink I grab their attention and let them know I was unclear on some of the modifications, and let them know I will gladly remake it if it doesn’t taste like they want it to. I love to take the time and make sure my customers are enjoying their drinks.

I had a sweet older lady come in and ask for a hot chai, and when I’m on register I ask a lot of questions. I had asked her if she wanted the hot water in her chai and explained the difference between the hot and cold so she could make an informed choice, we decided on no hot water (if she didn’t like it, I would remake it). She said it was the best chai she had ever had, and she was so happy I took the time to help her, and get to know the menu. It’s the little things we do as SSV or baristas that make a huge difference that can make someone want to be a regular. (Which will help your sales, and help you get more labor in the long run)

Hot chai should get the water to steep the flavor more. Taste test one with water by standard build and one without. You’ll notice the difference and not understand why people order no water ones.

Every single store in my town makes things differently and Marks cups differently it’s just infuriating. Then we get folks from other parts of the state and it’s even worse. It’s very frustrating.

the hot chai is supposed to get water but I literally never add it unless a customer asks. watery chai is gross.

That’s sad. There is a standard for a reason. It’s not HogDaddieBucks for a reason.

okay enjoy your spicy watery milk, teet_teet. just because theres standards doesn't mean it's the best way. starbucks standards are not the beall end all of barista-ing. do you do every mocha extra hot as well? despite the fact that extra hot is too hot for a lot of people? most of my customers ask for it without water. please tell me why it's sad that I think about what people actually prefer and not just do what the siren tells me?
