Maybe one day, managers will work crappy shifts and understand what we go through.. (self.starbucksbaristas)

I am my store's main opening barista, but traded shifts with a girl today, which put me working pre-close. Today was also Happy Hour. My first time ever working Happy Hour, in fact.
Our manager scheduled TWO of us for the first hour and a half of happy hour, which is also typically the busiest time of it.
We busted our asses and still had people waiting a while for their drinks, because we had so many coming through and basically one of us on bar, so the other could ring and warm food.
I wound up on bar, and made more frappuccinos than I have in my last 6 months (maybe exaggerating, but also might be pretty spot-on, since no one gets fraps at 5am).
Our manager thinks this is okay, to have two people. She has never worked a Happy Hour in her life and would probably be drowning too if she ever did.
Can we all start a petition that every manager has to work at least one HH a quarter to keep their job?

In two years, I've seen a SM work happy hour twice. I seen an SM close once. And I've only seen my SM in the store after 4pm three times.

I pick up shifts at a DT store (mine is cafe) and they’ll have two people in the whole store for an hour or two for HH. I have two partners at LEAST in my CAFE store, how THE FRICK is a DT location supposed to function with just 2! It’s ridiculous the way management schedules people. I agree with mandatory HH shifts.

In my experience, what managers say they do and what they actually do are two very different things. I know that managers should work at least 1 close a month but does it happen? I've yet to see it. Same goes for HH. Pretty sure a manager needs to work at least a couple a month but I've never seen that either.

My favorite is how my manager said she thought of getting another job, but didn't because she wanted to be available for emergency coverage. She has never come in as emergency coverage the entire year+ she has been here. She ALWAYS makes us call everyone else before she will come in.

it seems so crazy to me how the us managers run their stores. in my franchise in the UK, I don't know of any store where the manager doesn't work the busy shifts. in fact, we got told over the Xmas period either the store manager or ASM had to be in over every single peak shift

Same. I work in the US and if my store was drowning with long lines due to poor planning or Baristas not in place/following playbook, I would be in trouble with my uppers. Also if they were struggling and I wasn’t present trying to help.

And I have a supervisor and three shift leads (24 hour store) - My GM will bust out drinks at Starbucks if necessary, so it’s just unacceptable at my location.

Not all stores are like this, so it’s really no excuse.
