Too much bar I'm dying help(self.starbucksbaristas)

Isnt there supposed to be a limit to how many hours in a row they can have you on bar?? I just transferred to a new store and every shift I work no matter the shift lead, they stick me on bar for the whole thing. I usually work between 6 and 7 hour shifts usually at least 4 days in a row and I'm starting to notice I'm more tired and in pain after shifts. My shifts are all nice and would do their best to help give me a break if I asked but I'd rather not have too... i like bar and i dont want them to think I cant handle it 😓
I'm mostly just looking for some sympathy. I don't think I'm gonna complain even if there is supposed to be a limit. I'm in the US

Sounds like you’re mostly working morning? And that you’re the fastest/best bar they have? I find that shifts tend to place people where it would make the shifts go smoothly. (I’m a night shift) you can also communicate with your shift during your check in prior working. Just simply say ‘can I be warming today?’ Good shifts are typically flexible and want to promote growth by rotating people. Keep us updated.

Haha yeah... you got it. I'm sure I should be more honest with my shifts it's just a pride thing I think 😅

In theory you're supposed to be rotated around to help avoid repetitive motion injuries. In reality that almost never happens. I would talk to your shift at the beginning of your shift and ask to get some time doing other things. I try to accommodate requests as much as I can, but it's hard because sometimes you just have to put the strongest barista on bar.

sometimes your shift just isn’t considerate of those types of things. my only suggestion is talk to him/her and ask if there’s a specific reason they have you on bar all the time, and explain it’s a lot on you to do it 24/7. hopefully they’ll understand, if they don’t my experience has been to just suck it up. corporate always wins lol.

Yeah I think you're right 😅 It's just that I'm proud and happy that they trust me to bar so much but also it's a lot

Just say something! Odds are they won't think you're incapable or whatever, they won't think anything of it. I know my people who prefer bar or whatever and vice versa so some people I know would be fully satisfied on bar (even though I won't leave them there all day oc) so maybe they just think you're happier there. To answer your question though we are supposed to switch positions every 2 hours to prevent fatigue, burnout and monotony

Ah! I thought I had heard something about that switching at my last store! That's mostly why I asked, just curious. Bar is my favorite position, I just wonder if it's doing more harm to my health than I should tolerate. Thanks!

If you are in pain absolutely switch something up. Things can compound long term. Make sure you're stretching, your wrists, shoulders, back, especially before your shifts and at least once during and after. Check on your posture and make sure you're not tensing your shoulders. Try not to look down or at least not too much. Good speed !

Sounds like I’m the odd one out here, but I LOVE bar and if it’s the only position I could ever do, I’d be happy. When I became a shift I mourned for my bar time, lol

I am a shift and every day I am not running the show I am on bar. I spent the last two 8 hour shifts in bar. It sucks I know it sucks and I do my very best to make sure that none of my baristas go through it.
