living up to expectations (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by konekohimee
hello! ive been working at starbucks for about 5 months now, and i dont know what to say. sometimes i feel like im having a good shift, and other times i feel like i cant do anything right and that im just annoying my partners. cafe gets a little overwhelming with food from both cafe and drive thru, having to do other tasks like cleaning the oven, making mocha/whips/etc. while worrying about the cafe customers and all. i feel like my managers want me to do all of these things and finish them within a certain amount of time that i just cant. i feel like im just disappointing everyone, it feels horrible! why cant i live up to everyones expectations? what can i do to get better? any tips on becoming a better barista?

More staff 🙆🏻‍♀️
Yeah you can get really great at multitasking but the bottom line is we can’t meet this expectation without more people 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know exactly what you mean. I’ve been at Starbucks too but sometimes still feel as incompetent as if I just started. But, there’s a saying, “Feelings aren’t facts”. Keep reminding yourself of that.

Recently some of the partners who’ve been at my store way longer were talking about some of their screwups. It was a relief to hear them talk about it and made me realize we all feel that way from time to time. One of my coworkers jokingly said “I just act like I know what I’m doing even if I screw up.” And that’s not a bad idea. Acting confident makes you more confident.

Its all in the attitude. Keep doing your best, and do it with confidence!
